The Experience

Hi! We are a small family living on a tropical fruit farm in Spain! We are just a few minutes from the beach by car, 15/20 minute walk away. The farm has mountain and sea views and about 650 trees! Avocados, lychee, oranges, chirimoya, mangos and more! We are looking for short term volunteers to help us with the maintenance of our farm buildings and land.

Suzy was amazing, she was my first work exchange experience and I felt completely at home. The animals and property are lovely. The area is also great with plenty of places to visit! The work can sometimes be challenging in the heat, but can be managed in mornings when it's cooler.

My time here had everything, I wanted. The work was sometimes hard and physical, especially in a warm weather, which was there during my stay. Everything was worth it tho! Special thanks belongs to Suzy and her son Bruno. He took care of me and was very kind to me, when Suzy went on a trip for a few days. Your whole family made me feel like I'm at the right place. Accomodation was very comfortable and area, where the house is placed is beatiful. Overall I'm so thankful, you had me there and hope to visit you again some day!

Thank you for having me. I felt welcomed, and the property is in a beautiful part of the world. I appreciated the cultural immersion and the family's hospitality. And the beautiful animals! The agreement included meals and accommodation, but at times this felt tied to daily output. Time off was also more limited than expected. The workload was described as minimal, however expectations around pace and effort were high, which at times made it difficult to meet them.

I found it uncomfortable at the end. The placement is advertised as board & breakfast in exchange for 5 hrs work a day.

I provided 3 meals as initially you were great & we are grateful for those days.

After your weekend away, the communication & work effort decreased, making it feel not a fair exchange.

We didn´t feel clearing & cleaning a tool room was a strenuous task, especially after 1.5 days off!

The bedroom was not cleaned when you left, which was also a disappointment.

A good experience looking after the horses. The hosts and stablehands are kind, respecting and encouraging of immersion in the local culture. The area boasts a wide variety of walks and has good access to buses for travelling to the larger nearby cities. A lovely experience which I would recommend for anyone who would like to learn about horses and experience Andalusian culture.
