The Experience

Help us with our sustainable projects like a used tyre retaining wall, natural swimming pool, veg garden and construction as well as day to day activities like log splitting, repairs, maintenance and preparing some examples of your culture/food for us all to enjoy. We love to learn about the world but lack the resources to travel, so we’d love you to bring it to us while learning new skills and spending time with our family.

I finished a stint at the home, Elgin, where I stayed for 17 days. I had great conversations with the Watkins family—Simon, Louise, Amelia, and Eddy—and helped them tidy up and clean the football field, where I played soccer with Eddy. I went hiking with Simon, Louise, and Luna (their lovely Border Collie) . In my spare time, and with Louise's guidance, I visited Inverness, Aberdeen, Lossiemouth, Nairn, Forres, Keith, and Dufftown. I had a great stay in the caravan and enjoyed the good food provided by the Watkins family. It was my first Worldpackers experience and the best trip of my life.

My experience with the Watkins Clan was extraordinary. I traveled from Argentina for my first volunteer experience and found much more than just a place to stay: I found a family. They were incredibly patient with my English and even learned Spanish, buying games and books to share in the cultural exchange. The caravan is beautiful, comfortable, and fully equipped. The schedules are flexible, and the surrounding area is spectacular for exploring. Eddie, Amelia, and Luna are pure love. This experience changed my life forever. The greatest treasure I found in Scotland was the Watkins Clan 💕✨

My stay at the home was absolutely amazing! Louise and her family made me feel so welcome and motivated to explore Scotland. The Watkins are the most generous, kindest family I've had the pleasure of staying with. Louise had amazing recommendations for the area and encouraged me to take day trips during my time there. Whether it was exploring a nearby city or joining the family on their activities, this was a very rewarding week.

I'm so appreciative of my time here. The Watkins are the loveliest family, and I felt very welcome and included throughout my stay. I particularly enjoyed the collaborative work around the property and the day trips out with the family. The van was perfect- very well equipped and comfortable. It was full of board games and books and made the perfect spot to relax. The hours were well respected, and Louise and Simon were really thoughtful in suggesting ideas for days off and local places to explore. My stay here felt very meaningful and I miss it already. Thank you!!

I am finding it tough to write something that I feel accurately incapsulates our experience. We were welcomed in and immediately made to feel right at home. We had a delightful and cozy caravan to stay in, a great time working around the place and beautiful places nearby that made for excellent walks. Also as we found out a rather endless amount of adventures to go on all easily accessible via bus. In the mornings we got ourselves breakfast in the caravan, then lunches and dinners we had in the house with the family. Which by the way the meals were scrumptious!
