🏡🎨 Farmhouse organization within an artistic countryside project
The experience
I am Diana Rico, a Colombian artist based at Santa Helena, a century-old sabanera farmhouse in the Sabana de Bogotá. The house preserves its original architecture, art studio, and player piano. I also hold traditional and holistic ceremonies, including temazcal (sweat lodge) and equine-assisted processes. I seek calm volunteers to support domestic tasks, gardening, and organization.

Program Details
This volunteer program is centered on the creation of a garage sale space and the reorganization of storage areas within Santa Helena. The process involves sorting, classifying, and preparing objects, tools, archives, and materials accumulated over generations.
At the same time, we are clearing and adapting spaces that will become art studios, with the long-term vision of establishing a permanent artistic residency. The project combines my work as an artist with the dialogue between traditional knowledge and contemporary creative practices, rooted in the territory of the Sabana de Bogotá.
Volunteers participate directly in this transformation process — helping shape both functional and creative spaces.
Activities & Shift
Daily activities focus on organization and light physical support related to the transformation of storage areas and the preparation of the garage sale space. Creativity is welcome!
Main tasks include sorting and classifying objects, cleaning and organizing rooms, preparing materials for sale, gardening, and general space care. Occasionally, volunteers may support simple maintenance tasks or assist with animal care, such as feeding horses or helping with basic finca routines.
Work shifts are approximately 5 hours per day, usually in the mornings. Schedules can be arranged flexibly according to the needs of the project and the convenience of volunteers. Two days off per week are agreed upon together.
Rules
House guidelines are based on shared care, cleanliness, and respect for the living environment.
We cook together. I provide ingredients for breakfast preparation and vegetarian lunch. Volunteers arrange their own dinners, although the kitchen is always available. It must always be left clean after use.
Bedrooms must remain organized — it is an open-door house policy. The home should feel beautiful, breathable, and orderly at all times. Chaos, dirt, or prolonged mess in private rooms is not accepted. All shared spaces and facilities used must be cleaned after use.
Smoking is not allowed inside the house. We promote a serene, inspiring, artistic, and harmonious environment; therefore, we do not welcome drug use or behaviors that alter the space’s sense of balance.
Respect and love for the animals of the finca — dogs, cats, chickens, and horses — is essential, including willingness to feed or provide grass when needed.
*There is a Laundry machine. Volunteers must bring their detergent/soap. Also you should bring your own towels. But if you can't, there is a place nearby where you can buy.
