Activities & Shift
Schedule & Time Commitment:
The schedule is 20 hours per week, with 4 hours per day, Monday to Friday.
Weekends (Saturday and Sunday) are completely free, giving you plenty of time to explore Vilcabamba and the surrounding mountains.
Daily Routine & Flexibility:
Our schedule is flexible and relaxed. There are no fixed start or finish times.
You can wake up, have breakfast, and begin your tasks when you feel ready. In most cases, you’ll be able to organize your work in a way that suits your personal rhythm.
Occasionally, certain tasks may require a specific time (for example, coordination or outdoor work). If that happens, you’ll always be informed in advance.
Since some of the work depends on weather conditions, we stay adaptable. If it’s too hot or rainy, we simply adjust the plan. Fortunately, the climate in Vilcabamba is comfortable and stable throughout most of the year.
What You Can Do in Your Free Time:
Vilcabamba is known for its nature, peaceful atmosphere, and active community. In your time off, you can enjoy:
Cerro Mandango - Hike the famous "Sleeping Inca" mountain and enjoy panoramic views of the entire valley
Podocarpus National Park - Explore one of the most biodiverse cloud forests in the world, located nearby
Rivers and Waterfalls - Swim in the Uchima River or discover hidden natural waterfalls
Horseback Riding and Mountain Biking - Ride through trails, valleys, and coffee plantations
Local Culture - Visit organic markets, enjoy high-quality local coffee, and join weekend events or live music
Wellness and Nature - Participate in yoga classes, go birdwatching, or experience local wellness treatments
Rules
We aim to create a respectful, relaxed, and positive living environment for everyone.
To make that possible, we ask all volunteers to follow a few simple guidelines:
Respect for the Space:
This is a shared home and a developing project. Please keep common areas clean and organized, and always clean up after yourself - especially in the kitchen.
Responsibility & Communication:
We value reliability. If you commit to tasks, we expect you to show up and complete them responsibly. If anything comes up, communicate openly and in advance.
Work Attitude:
No need for perfection, but a good attitude matters. Be proactive, willing to learn, and ready to contribute. This is a hands-on project, and flexibility is important.
Quiet Hours & Environment:
We maintain a peaceful atmosphere. Loud music or disruptive behavior, especially at night, is not suitable for this space.
Substances:
Alcohol is allowed in moderation.
Drug use is not accepted on the property.
Smoking is fine in the outdoor areas, but the house itself remains smoke free.
Visitors:
Please ask in advance before inviting guests to the property.
Safety & Awareness:
Be mindful of tools, terrain, and the natural environment. Basic common sense goes a long way, especially when working outdoors.
