The Experience

Join our alternative learning community in the central Andes of Peru! Volunteers help children (7–11 years old) practice English through games, art, music, outdoor activities, and creative workshops. We value cultural exchange, community life, and learning through nature. We expect volunteers to participate actively, share their skills, and enjoy a simple and meaningful family environment.

Qishpikay Learning Center's holistic, comprehensive approach to teaching at the grammar school level distinguishes it markedly from traditional schooling and education available in their public school system. A senior US citizen and experienced educator myself, I found their program to be a creative and empowering educational endeavor. I completed my two weeks onsite fully confident that I had contributed in a meaningful way to the education of the pupils enrolled there, and I'm grateful to the sponsors, parental supporters and teaching staff for the opportunity and experience afforded me.

I went to do this experience with my partner; he taught French at school and I taught English. It was an incredibly enriching experience in which we were able to connect 100% with the local people and we learned a lot from Hector's family. We formed a very beautiful connection, and to this day we are extremely fond of them. Not only did we connect with them at the school where the children were very close and well-behaved, but also outside of it. Hector and Katy showed us really great places to eat, beautiful landscapes, and we played basketball with them. They really treated us as part of the family Thank you very much.
