Everyone at the Green Tortoise was very welcoming and accommodating. It was such a good experience to have a small community even with covid restrictions. The hours were manageable and the location was so perfect for exploring seattle life. I would recommend anyone who wants to meet new people and immerse in Seattle culture to check out this trade work!

Green Tortoise was my first experience as a Worldpacker. I have been very well accepted since my arrival until my last day there. You will not find any other place as friendly nor as well-disposed as GT. I was able to solve any issues I had directly with my host during my stay. The work isn't hard, but a certain discipline is required to perform the necessary chores. There are a bunch of ways to contribute during your stay. Such as housekeeping, cleaning, cooking, projects, etc. They provided me with much more than I needed. I am very grateful I was selected to stay and volunteer there.

Rex an Haru are hands down are the best host any traveler could hope for! The culture of family and community are present at not only the hostel but in the market and local shops around. The accommodation are some of the best I have stayed in. Even with COVID restrictions closing down the city, Rex and Haru made me feel welcome and at home during the holidays. Giving me a chance to help with the cooking of the dinners meant a lot to me to be able give back in a time when so many need it.

Thank you for all the amazing experience and so many more to come!!

I had the most amazing experience at the Green Tortoise. The staff and guests made the hostel feel like a home. The work was fair & introduced me to people that have changed my life—I’m currently backpacking across Washington with tradeworkers/past tradeworkers I met at the hostel :) I can’t wait to make my way back for more family dinners! It has been one of the greatest joys of my life working at this hostel and experiencing life with everyone in Seattle.
