The Exchange

We would love to have you come and assist us in our buzzing reception, cafe and housekeeping. Generally you rotate one week in each department. We have been welcoming guests for 28 years and have had many volunteers work with us over the years. We are an owner operated business so you will work directly with me. Hope to hear from you!


32 hours of help per week

Kitchen Hand: Help serving and organizing meals.

Housekeeping: Exchange and wash bed linens. Make the beds.

Reception: Help with check-ins, check-outs and attend to guests.

Bartending: Serve and maintain the supplies and inventory of beverages.

Program Details

You will work 32 hours a week in a different department each week.
You will be actively involved with the guests, assisting with barbeque and games nights.
On your days off, we expect you to explore our beautiful city. We have many discounted tours.
Some of them are free.

Activities & Shift

Reception duties include: Checking in guests, describing what to do in the city and all general enquiries about Cape Town and the hostel
Cafe duties include: washing dishes, preparing the breakfast buffet and general cafe duties
Bar duties include: basic bar services and creating a fun vibe - we hope you love music because we do!
Housekeeping: assisting the housekeeper, making beds and tidying rooms
Community Project: Wednesday all our volunteers visit our community project - read to
children and sometimes play games. You will love it and the kids certainly do!
