The Exchange

Gospel Miracle Church Ministry (GMCM) is a christian church ministry offering spiritual and social support to the people of Rusinga Island and beyond. The church has Miracle Garden that we grow fruits and other vegetables that help the ministry to provide food security to the congregation and the community. Our farm is big support to the local community since the fruits and vegetables that we grow help us a food security serving widows, orphans.


What you offer

18 hours of help per week

Child Care: Help look after, educate and instruct children.

Social Work: Help with volunteer work in local projects and communities.

Teaching Sports: Teach or help guests or local communities practice a new sport.

Teaching Languages: Teach a language to guests or local communities.


What you get

2 days off per week

Private Room: You will have a bed in a private room. In other words, a room just for you.

Shared Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other travelers.

Team Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other people.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

Lunch: You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.

Dinner: You are entitled to a free dinner, every day of your stay.

Free Laundry: You can use our laundry room freely.

Free Tours: We’ll take you on tours and rides around town. For free!

Language lessons: Take free language classes at our place.

Permaculture Course: Take part in our Permaculture course for free.

Use our equipped kitchen: Feel free to use our kitchen and make your own delicious food.

Certificate: Get a certificate of completion after you finish your experience.


Requirements

Beginner English or Fluent English

Between 18 and 78 years old

Accepts solo applications and also couples and pairs

Program Details

Non ChemicalOrganic/biological methods used on my property: The principal methods of organic farming include crop rotation, green manures and compost, biological pest control, and mechanical cultivation.

Methodologies: Mulching, Permaculture, Without chemicals or pesticides
Practices: gardens, vegetable, grains, seed saving, self-sufficiency
Animals: birds, cats, chickens, cows - beef, cows - milk, fish, goats, poultry, sheep
Products made: egg production, meat products, medicinal

Our farm is situated next to Lake Victoria. Our volunteers will have a full view of the lake while working as well as swimming. Rusinga Island where we are is also a home of birds, wild animals and tourist attraction sites. From where we are, other islands are just 4 miles away and volunteers have the opportunity to visit other islands during their stay.
