The experience

At Umoja Children's home, we are dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing and loving environment for children in need. Our goal is to create a space where they can grow, learn and thrive. By volunteering with us, you will play a vital role in shaping their future and ensuring they have a brighter future. with the increasing number of orphans in the children's home, there is need to build a bigger dormitory and Class rooms.


What you offer

20 hours of help per week

Arts: Help with painting, graffiti, sculpting or drawing.

Painting & Decorating: Help with painting or decorating the property facilities.

Building & Repairing: Help with a wide range of repairs or building.


What you get

2 days off per week

Private Room: You will have a bed in a private room. In other words, a room just for you.

Shared Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other travelers.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

Lunch: You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.

Dinner: You are entitled to a free dinner, every day of your stay.

Discounts on Restaurants: Get discounts at nearby restaurants.

Discounts on Tours: Get discounts for tours and excursions around town.

Free Laundry: You can use our laundry room freely.

Free Hiking Tours: We’ll take you on excursions and hikes around town. For free!

Free Events: Get free entrance for the best events in town.

Pick Up: We will pick you up when you arrive, and take you to our property.

Dance classes: Take free dance classes at our place.

Language lessons: Take free language classes at our place.

Use our equipped kitchen: Feel free to use our kitchen and make your own delicious food.

Certificate: Get a certificate of completion after you finish your experience.

Basic Internet Access: Basic speed internet for you to work remotely

Dedicated Workspace: Specific space for you to work remotely


Requirements

Beginner English

Between 18 and 60 years old

Welcomes solo volunteers, couples, and partners of volunteers

Program Details

Here's how you can make a meaningful impact in this role at our children's orphanage:
*Building and maintenance: Help us improve and expand our facilities to provide a comfortable and secure home for the children. Whether you have construction skills or a knack for repairs, your expertise will contribute to creating a safe and nurturing environment.
*Fundraising for the building: Help us fund-raise for building the dormitory and class rooms. You can do this on ground or remotely. Any support towards this will be greatly appreciated. A small input to this shall go a long way.
*Mentoring and support: Interact with the children, become their mentor and be a positive role model in their lives. Your guidance, attention and care can make a significant difference in their emotional well-being and overall development.


Activities & Shift

The activities can involve: Fundraising for the construction on crowd funding platforms like Go Fund Me, Monitoring the construction, reporting and documenting the progress to the director, assisting the orphanage in coming up with quality designs and Bill of quantities as per Kenyan costs, interact with and guide the engineers on ground and ensure funds from all fundraisers are accounted and used rightfully for the dedicated course.
