I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely recommend the experience to anyone looking for a work. The hostel itself was great and social, and all of the staff and some volunteers were friendly. The work was easy and mainly involved helping out at reception, so it was straightforward and enjoyable.
Matala is a really nice place with a lovely small town atmosphere and beautiful. It is a very small town though, so there isn't a huge amount to do and only 1 small supermarket. Getting to other towns can be quite difficult unless you travel back through Heraklion, unless you have car.

I applied for the hostel but since it was full Ektoras offered me a position in Matala hostel which is in the south of crete! I spent there one month and I couldnt be more thankful for such a nice and beautiful experience! The surroundings are beautiful, perfect for nature and beach vibe! I was there in april when the season was just starting so it was pretty chill. The team is also super welcoming and the hostel is beautiful! Thank you Ektor! Hope to be back soon!

My 1st volunteer experience and it couldn't have been better. Had the best time at the hostel. Work is super chill and hours are respected, plus there is plenty of free time to explore the city and the island. Fotis and Ektor made me feel super welcome and they were always there for us if we had any questions or if we needed help with anything. Met some amazing people and lived some amazing experiences. For sure will be back!

My time at the hostel was just perfect. The hostel has a good location to easily reach everything important in the city. Working hours are good for doing things before or after work. The work itself is simple, easy and relaxed and the staff is extremely nice. You have good opportunities to meet new people and friends in the hostel. All in all, a perfect host.

Probably my favorite Worldpackers experience thus far! The agreed upon hours and duties were respected and very manageable. With the volunteer schedule, I was still able to spend a lot of time exploring the island. Volunteers are given two days off in a row, which makes it possible to go on day trips to other regions and fully immerse in what Crete has to offer. The team at Matala Hostel was extremely kind, communicative, and understanding. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great work environment that is only steps away from the ocean!!

Volunteering at Matala Hostel was a truly great experience! Adam, the boss, is incredibly kind, supportive, and fair – he makes everyone feel welcome and valued. I worked at the reception and loved meeting guests from all over the world while enjoying the warm, family-like atmosphere of the hostel. The work was well organized, fun, and never stressful. The hostel itself is a beautiful and friendly place where you quickly feel at home. I can highly recommend volunteering here to anyone looking for an unforgettable experience!

The work is pretty easy and the manager is very laid back and chill. The hostel itself is comfortable and there's plenty of common areas to relax. Matala is a small town and there isn't much to do, so it's great place if you enjoy lazy days and relaxing!
