The Experience

We are a family-run hostel in the centre of Alicante, very close to the central market and the night life district. We need help with cleaning, reception and sometimes a bit of bartending. We want people that can work on a social environment, that are engaging and also responsible with their work, the atmosphere is really good and it is a great opportunity to improve your spanish and get to know cool people from around the globe.

I really enjoyed my time with the other volunteers however the experience with the staff was not good. There was often no communication. I was never shown by the staff/managers how to do any of the cleaning tasks that were expected of me. The other volunteers just showed me what they knew. But then the owner Carla would get angry at me for not doing certain tasks or for doing things wrong, but she had never asked me or shown me to do those things so I didn't even know. It was a very stressful energy for me and I was always afraid she was going to find something new to yell at me about.

Hostel Olé was an amazing first worldpackers experience! I had the opportunity to meet people from all around the world, create a family with the other volunteers, learn how to run a hostel and practice my Spanish and English. The location of the hostel is good and it is perfect to explore Alicante and its surroundings. The shifts are easy and you will work in a relaxed and easygoing atmosphere. The staff is mostly made up of volunteers and sometimes it felt like there was some leadership missing and lack of communication with the host. Thanks for the experience!

Thank you for the stay! the hostel is a nice place and I enjoyed my stay! I felt safe and that was for me one of the most important things. When that is said you are, at the hostel, seen more as a “worker” than a “volunteer”, you are not a part of the family, but you have to make your own little family with the other volunteers. The hours are as agreed but not very flexible. The volunteer lives with the guest. The host Tomi is very sweet and is a very nice person, no doubt, but he is not much around, therefore you will feel like it's mostly volunteers who runs the place. The shifts are easy

I felt welcomed since the first day I arrived. Made many friends, learned how to run a hostel, practice both my English and Spanish. I learned a lot Spanish and improved. I super recommend the place, everything was according to what's here. Miss you Olé family, sorry for leaving you so soon.
