I was supposed to volunteer for 1 month, but I ended up staying only 2 weeks, because even though I was well received by people, I didn't feel good at all in the hostel environment. The work demand is too heavy to be done by just one person and this effort is not worth it, as the good part of living in a hostel is not found there. There are way much more colive residents than travelers, so unfortunately there's no hostel vibe!

ITH Balboa Park is a great place to meet both local San Diego residents (colives) as well as international travelers. The managers at ITH Balboa Park were absolute gems and really do a wonderful job of making the place feel like home. I made so many friends while I was there that I am hoping and planning on returning sometime soon!!

This is not a hostel, there are not travelers there, so there's not a vibe of cultural exchange in the place. Nobody wants to participate in the activities, even though the managers try everything to organize them.
The staff room is very small for six people and it doesn't have a window. The staff members are constantly causing drama and the workload is a lot.
