I was incredibly well received by Elen's family, and treated with so much kindness. I am very grateful for the family's hospitality and generosity with me! That being said, though Elen did advise me in advance that classes would not be taking place during my stay, she did not advise me that she was outside the country until about 15 minutes before I arrived. As there aren't classes on at the moment and Elen isn't in the country, there is little opportunity to have the impact the advert promised, and though the work is light it's a very different experience to what one may expect going in.

Hello Alicia! We left a reminder in the questionnaire itself (at the time of application) about all the rules: the arrival time and also that we are not holding classes at the moment. We notified in advance in the questionnaire precisely to ensure that the volunteer agrees with the rules and conditions of the space.

Elen was wonderful and welcoming with a lovely energy! Her family opened their house and hearts to me and the other volunteer. Unexpectedly, the studio was under repair when I got there, so there were no clases available during my stay. We had one on one conversation time with Elen, were we both ended up learning and improving our languages. I felt very comfortable and happy despite the circumstances, would recommend!

It was a really nice experience working with Elen, and I will certainly carry the lessons learned with me for life. When I arrived at the space, I was welcomed by Mr. Wilson, who treated me with respect and was very receptive. Ms. Rita brought me even closer to Bahia by presenting Bahian cuisine to me in the best possible way. The space is a little distant from places of greatest tourist interest, but it is very quiet and comfortable.
