Volunteering at the hostel was an amazing experience. Kai is an equally amazing host, and I'm so glad I got to volunteer in Sagamiko JP. I felt involved with the local community and got to see many places like the onsen in Mori Mori or shrines nearby Mt Takao. The work itself was well structured and gave me enough time to relax in between and prepare for other things like grocery shopping. The accommodation is very comfortable, being surrounded by nature and hearing the river was music to my ears, on top of the consistent rain that never hindered work. All in all, a great experience.

Working with kai was my first volunteering experience in worldpackers and I learned a lot and had so much fun. He is a really nice, understanding and a respectful person as long as you keep your promise and stay on the schedule!

Wonderful place to experience Japan outside the big cities and still meet people, both locals and travelers! Kai was a very considerate host and it was fun meeting & speaking with the English students. Work is part renovation of the new place (say hi to the cat!) and part teaching English & hours are respected.

I had an amazing time with Kai! He was a very kind and thoughtful host - I had lots of good conversations with him and the other volunteers while eating at the table. I truly hope that our paths meet again in the future. The whole experience was great, I will say that the work at the new house was tougher then I expected! Teaching the english students was so fun and I made friends with them. Make sure to check your dates for when you want to go explore areas near Tokyo, as it is far without car. I would suggest staying the night in Tokyo and coming back the next morning to be able to enjoy!

Staying with Kai-san was an absolute treat-- He's super kind and eager to hear new suggestions. My time with him and the other volunteer gave me a whole bunch of new insights into caring for Japanese homes and how English is taught in Japan. :) The outdoor gym was an added bonus!

I must say that 5 stars aren't enough for this place… Kai is a truly thoughtful, committed and curious person. Even if he is our host, he is also open to learn, not only workwise but also when it comes to opinions, ideas and worldviews, which I highly appreciated. The amount of peace and community I felt there was magical! Highly recommend this place for everyone one who loves nature, sports and connection!

Staying at the hostel has been one of my favorite experiences in Japan! Kai is a really caring and considerate host and he made sure we had everything we needed during my stay. Occasionally we also did some boxing classes which was so much fun!! The location is really beautiful with a lot of mountains to hike up. The job was fairly easy aswell, we usually started around 9 and our main tasks were building a fence and teaching English in the evening. Thank you Kai and the other volunteers for an amazing two weeks!☺️

The location was really nice, surrounded by beautiful nature with a river close by. The work was mainly renovating the old house and some housekeeping and cleaning. Kai was really kind and considerate host,
sometimes we watched movies on a projector together and had some boxing training. I had an amazing time there and I am grateful for the opportunity !
Definitely a recommendation if you want to get out in nature :D

I really enjoyed my stay, and it flew by so fast! The work was a little different every day, as Kai was renovating an old house and seeing the progress was so rewarding! He is an amazing host, fun to talk to, generous, always helpful and really loves what he does. Even though the town is small, and the hostel is not directly in town, you won't feel lonely! Kai created a lovely little community in his hostel, from neighbors who brought us fresh bamboo shoots, his English students from 8 to 80 and the other volunteers. I am so thankful for my time here and all the memories I made with everyone!

This was a great experience. Away from the noise of the city, surrounded by a beautiful forest and a river just in front of the hostel. The work was a bit tough cause we were just starting renovating but the hours were fully respected. Kai was a very nice host. I had great talks with the other volunteer and we learned a lot about cooking. It got a little cold in the first few days that I was there but I guess I got used to it, I definitely recommend this experience!
