The hostel is a wonderful place to volunteer at. I ended up staying for almost a year there and I think that says a lot of the kind of place it is

My stay at Belfort hostel was pleasant; I liked having plenty of time to explore the city and do my own activities. It's located right next to the beautiful Deans Village, and on Sundays, we always have a family dinner with the manager Tas, and all the volunteers which is a nice time for all together to socialize, and we usually have another BBQ day. So if you're looking for a cultural exchange and want time to explore the amazing city after work, this hostel is a great option.

Volunteering at the hostel was a amazing opportunity to learn how a busy hostel works and what it takes to run it smoothly. If you want to visit Scotland I cannot recommend this place enough. The work is fair and flexible with plenty of free time to explore beautiful Edinburgh. The team made me feel welcome and meeting other volunteers and travelers from all over the world made this experience even more memorable and valuable.

I spent two lovely months at the Belford during the fringe festival, aka peak tourist time, constantly fully booked hostel. Despite the chaos of the time of year, I had an overwhelmingly positive experience at the Belford.
Work hours were respected, housekeeping tasks were reasonable, same routine almost every day, managers were helpful when we had any questions.
I was given the opportunity to use my own skills and got to add to the hostels murals. The group of volunteers who were there made it a lovely experience for making friends in a new place.
Would totally return one day!

I've been volunteering here for almost four months now, and the experience has been genuinely great. The manager is always bringing in free food for volunteers and guests to enjoy, which makes a big difference and definitely helps ease expenses. He also organises karaoke nights and is consistently around, involved with everyone. The hostel itself is a lovely place to stay. The common areas are comfortable and cosy, and the TV room has access to streaming platforms, which makes it easy to relax after a long day. The location is beautiful and right by a river with stunning walking paths.
