The Experience

We have finished turning our wreck of a 300 year old house into a shiny new boutique hotel deep in the Chinese countryside (Wuyuan, Jiangxi province). We have captured all of this with photos and stories which we want you to turn into a book, ready for us to give to a printer.

This whole experience went far beyond my expectations, it changed a lot my perseption of the chinese culture and helped me to understand it much better, Ed and Selina are the most patience and easygoing people ever, i learned a lot of chinese traditions with them.
Plus, the place is gorgeous and you can walk in the mountains, river and the small towns in the area, this is the real china for me.
Dont hesitate to visit the skywells if youre looking for great ambiance, great food and great friends!

Wow, how do we begin to describe our incredible stay here. It is one we will never forget. From the moment we arrived we felt at home. Ed & Selina were unbelievably kind & generous to us.
The work was as the advert suggests, hiking & biking to map brilliant trails through the beautiful landscape. Ed & Selina gave clear ideas about what they wanted but allowed us the freedom to explore for ourselves.
Skywells is one of a kind. So much character & filthy rich in history which has been preserved in the renovation. We will be forever grateful for our time there & our new friendships. Thank you!

About the host

The Skywells is a one of a kind, 300 year old Chinese mansion - deep in the Chinese countryside. Our home is in Yan village, a Song dynasty collection of merchant mansions, a place of culture, learning and fabulous wealth. Today, it is a relatively poor but unspoiled piece of China's heritage. The Skywells is lovingly restored, with 3 courtyards and an entirely hand carved wooden interior, thanks to local artisans. We've added modern touches ...
