The experience

The Sanctuary has been operating for more than 12 years, offering a life full of peace and dignity to horses that have suffered various kinds of mistreatment. Among other things, it houses equines from programs that replace horse-drawn traction, victims of abuse, abandonment, or even exploited in sports or traditions.

Over time, animals from many other species have joined, all survivors of some form of exploitation.

Activities & Shift

Daily tasks include preparing food and feeding the animals, cleaning and refilling the water troughs, cleaning the pens and the grounds where they are fed, as well as collaborating with the maintenance and hygiene of the animal facilities.

On the other hand, there are also tasks related to the house: helping with cooking tasks and keeping the common areas and the bedrooms tidy and clean.

The five hours of daily work are approximate, as they will depend on the needs that may arise beyond the usual routine. Generally, the routine includes between 3 and 4 hours of field work in the morning, then lunch, a break or nap, and subsequently about 1 hour of work in the afternoon.

The working times are the same for all volunteers. Many afternoons may be free depending on the organization of the tasks. Saturdays and Sundays all volunteers have the afternoons off. This rest schedule may vary if any priority arises.

For those staying 30 days or more, a full day off can be coordinated.

Rules

Requirements:

- Be at least 18 years old
- Be able to work in a team
- Be proactive
- Be respectful of the guidelines and rules of the place regarding handling animals
- Bring work clothes (loose-fitting long pants and closed footwear such as work boots, trekking boots, rain boots or similar that cover the ankle, work gloves such as gardening or masonry gloves)
