The Experience

We operate a farm and a correspondence-based high school on Yakushima Island, in Kagoshima Prefecture, south of Japan. We also have a small cafe where we sometimes hold events for people that live on the island to connect with nature, and with each other. Many students from across Japan come to our correspondence-based high school in Yakushima, to find themselves and reconnect with nature and each other.

The hosts are kind and respectful, and they're always happy to explain things if you have any questions. The facilities and equipment are well-equipped, and I had everything I needed for a comfortable two-week stay. If you run out of anything, there's a supermarket just a 6 min walk away. On your days off, you can explore Yakushima, which is larger than I thought. I wasn't able to visit everywhere I wanted to during my stay. If you want the freedom to explore the island at your own pace, having a car is recommended.

I had a great time here! Working at Sent us village and at the school was enjoyable thanks to the great people I worked with. I was treated very kindly and could practice my Japanese. I'm also very grateful for all the free time we had so I could explore Yakushima! Maria ela coordinated everything really well and I appreciate that we had a detailed weekly schedule. Truly an unforgettable experience.

My experience at Ozhora Club in Yakushima was amazing! I was so lucky to be accommodated at Daisuke-san's own house. This allowed me to deepen into Japanese culture as well as to improve my comprehension of Japanese language. Moreover, I was able to visit both Senvus Village -where I helped cutting some trees and removing weeds from the tea field- and Ohzora High School, where I also met some members of the staff. During my entire permanence, Marianela kept in touch with me, asking me what I did during the day, if everything was okay and being always available for any doubt or problem.
