My experience with Zelijka and her animals was fantastic. The tasks are not tiring at all and do not take up the whole day. Zelijka is a fantastic person who tries to involve you in Croatian culture and the world of the Catholic religion. Shout out to Micheal and Yuliana the neighbors most wonderful people I met.

There are a couple big projects that are better for larger groups or people volunteering for an extended period of time but mostly the work just consists of feeding, cleaning and general care for the animals. Zeljka stays inside until around 5 pm so your pretty much on your own but she does text tasks and will come out to ask things in the evening. The town is close by and cute, especially the cinema which I recommend. In total its a beautiful place to be with truly kind and caring people (micheal and jolana) and a very nice escape/detox from everyday life

I had a great time hanging out and taking care of all the animals at the shelter! The area was quite beautiful and the work on the sanctuary was really enjoyable. Thanks for having me!!

Zelijka is a kind person, both with her animals and her volunteers. She cares deeply about her animals, which is inspiring to see. She enjoys getting to know her volunteers as well, so no need to be shy! I was at her santuary for about a week- in the morning I typically had some tasks (food + water for the animals, cleaning up dirty hay, etc.) and then in the evening the tasks were somewhat similar. There is downtime in-between and its a rural town. A car would be a + (which she had offered). Some days you may be asked to help with other various tasks, but they were all fun and doable for me.

I had a really amazing time at the shelter. The place is absolutely lovely and so are all the animals! I will miss everyone so much. The work wasn't a lot and it was really fun. Its a lot of free time to experience the dreamy landscape and hang out with the animals. Zjelka even took us to the cinema and town. Thank you so much for the opportunity Zeljka!

I had a very good time at the sanctuary!
Zéljka is a very caring and warmhearted person who cares for everyone, whether it is the animals or her volunteers.
You can choose at what time of the day you want to get the work done (except for feeding the animals, they let you know when it’s time to eat😉)
The nature there is stunning and the animals are the best, being with them all the time was genuinely the best experience ever!!
Be prepared to spend most of your time with either other volunteers or alone if currently there is no one else, since Zéljka spends most of her time inside.

I'm new to volunteering, and I must say I feel great connecting with animals and nature, and Jelzka is all love. We're carrying out the projects here.

My friend and I stayed 3 weeks and decided to extend 2 more because we felt truly at home. Zeljka is very kind and always open to talk or help. The work with the animals itself is not that hard or long, and really enjoyable, but a lot of different parts need cleaning and organizing, so that's a nice extra task for the people that want to help more.
Zeljka and the neighbors, Jolana and Michael are all very friendly, sometimes cooking for us (Zeljka's food is amazing ) and inviting us to the cinema or the little lake nearby. It's a very calm and beautiful place, ideal for a slow life.

Unfortunately, our stay was not positive overall. We enjoyed the animal care and flexible work but there were serious issues with basic necessities. The sanctuary ran out of water, so the fire department had to refill the well. As Zeljika could not cover the €59 bill, we were asked to pay €30. The volunteer house has no drinking water and we found mould on a mattress. We left one day early after finding a sick cat. When we asked Zeljika for help, she became aggressive, shouted at us, called us “weak” and “modern girls from the city” and said we were not helping. We felt unsafe and disrespected

I had a great time staying at the shelter! It is a calm and peaceful place surrounded by nature. Źeljka, the host, is very welcoming and has the kindest heart. Except of taking care of the animals , we did some cleaning, organising and rearranging on the farm, to help her keeping everything nice and tidy. I was there with my friend for 2 weeks, so we always worked together. Since Źeljka spends a lot of the daytime inside, you're mainly together with the other volunteers. So, if you're coming alone and there's no one else volunteering at that time, you'll really have some detoxing ;)
