Program Details
This program offers travellers the opportunity to take part in the harvest of Puglia’s centenarian olive trees and contribute to a centuries-old food culture. Through practical experience, participants learn to distinguish quality olive oil from lower-grade oils, gain knowledge and awareness of the wider food industry and market, and explore the wealth of art and history in the region. The harvest is physically demanding and requires commitment, cooperation, and flexibility. It also brings people together: over the years, we have forged lasting friendships with volunteers, many of whom have returned to harvest with us again.
In exchange for your work, we provide shared accommodation, three home-cooked meals a day, and art and cultural heritage activities, including excursions to Matera, Gravina and rupestrian fresco sites, and cheesemaking.
Dates and Commitment
We require your availability for the full period, November 4–28, 2026, including arrival and departure days, rest days and excursions.
We are assembling a team of six volunteers—three women and three men—to share the daily work and cultural experiences.
Activities & Shift
Volunteers take part in each stage of the daily harvest: placing nets beneath the trees, harvesting olives with hand-held and electric rakes, filling and carrying crates, and transporting the olives to the local mill at the end of the day.
Our schedule follows the weather and the needs of the harvest. When conditions are good, we may work every day until the harvest is complete, then spend the remaining days on visits and rest. When rain prevents harvesting, we may arrange an excursion instead.
For this reason, we cannot accommodate shorter or longer stays. Your commitment to the full period ensures that everyone shares both the work of the harvest and the opportunities for cultural activities.
