The Experience

You like cooking? Help me in the kitchen, shopping and gardening. I do need a helping hand to maintain my private 2000m2 botanical & art garden with a handful of olive and foreign subtropical trees. Anyone who loves the whisper of the wind, the music in the guitar or piano or sleeping under twinkling stars is welcome! A bit of a romanticism helps - and the wish to live in mutual respect and care a harmonic, simple life close to mother nature.

I'm very grateful for the home's generosity throughout my stay. He is thoughtful, kind and interesting, and made every effort to cheer me up after I got some bad news. I particularly loved going snorkelling for the first time and our trip to Lipari. However, the house is very remote and this introduces difficulties (you need to manually flush the toilet with a bucket outside, ensure you brush your teeth with filtered water etc.). The host, whilst kind, made several inappropriate comments throughout the stay regarding how attractive he found me and my race, which made me uncomfortable.

To be fair the last words have to be put in the context: We talked about a friend i once had, that she was treated disrespectful by on islander - and that i find people with dark skin beautiful. It was meant as a statement against racism and a compliment concerning both men and women.

Macu is an extraordinary person, very helpful and adaptable. A great first experience for me as worldpacker host. A pity that the stay was a bit shortened by bad weather (no ferries). I wish Macu all the best. E muchas gracias, que podria rinfrescar mi Castellano!
