I would recommend this experience to everyone!! I spent a month at the guest house and I absolutely have nothing to complain about — everything was great! Kumi and Chris are incredibly kind people and always do their best to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable. The local staff are also all young and fun, and I had the opportunity to make friends with volunteers from all over the world! The work is super easygoing, and they always respect the agreed working hours and days off. The breakfast included is also always delicious and filling!

I'm so grateful for my time here! Chris, Kumi and their family are incredibly kind and welcoming. I worked in the café, helping with washing dishes, preparing drinks, cleaning tables, etc. I'm especially grateful for the beautiful relationship I built with the café staff, as well as with the other volunteers I met. I'll always carry those friendships and memories with me.
I loved sharing experience like the Yamaga FC match, Matsumoto Bon Bon festival, karaoke, Mario Kart nights, shared meals and even Suikawari by the river! I would absolutely recommend it, and I hope I can come back someday!🫶🏼

I can't be grateful enough for this place !
I felt warmly welcomed, by Chris and Kumi and their family, as well as the Storyhouse and Guesthouse staff, and other volunteers. I worked both Café and Guesthouse and plannings were really well managed so I got a lot of time to both relax and explore Nagano Prefecture and surroundings. Also, I truly enjoyed learning Latte Art when time would allow it, and the guesthouse was super social and cozy. Kumi, Chris, thank you so much 🫶🏼 !! You set the bar really high for future volunteerings, and I will surely be back in Matsumoto ✨🏞️🗾

My time here is one that will forever be etched in my memory. First time volunteering in a different country, the experience here was nothing short of extraordinary! Chris and Kumi were extremely kind, funny, and warm. They treated everyone like family, often inviting us to local events, dinners, pot lucks, karaoke, and having Mario Kart Parties down at the cafe amongst many more! My days off were spent exploring what Matsumoto fully has to offer, and I can definitely say I fell in love with the city. I can definitely say I fell in love with the city. Can't wait to be back!

I had a lovely expeirence working in Storyhouse Cafe and staying at the guest house! Chris and Kumi were very welcoming and always involving me and other volunteers in various activities like going to a Yamaga FC football game, taking part in the Matsumoto Bon Bon festival, making dinners and having mario kart parties which were all highlights of my trip to Japan. Working in the cafe was fun and involved learning to make different drinks off the menu, and doing dishes and clearing tables etc. This was my first worldpackers experience and I would recommend to anybody, I'll remember it forever

My time at the Storyhouse cafe/the guest house was amazing. Chris and Kumi are extremely welcoming, funny, and caring. I worked in the cafe, and I wish I could stay forever! My co-workers were so wonderful, and my responsibilities at the cafe were reasonable and enjoyable. The hours are fair, and Chris and Kumi made sure we had consecutive days off so we could travel around the region in our off time. They were also flexible if something came up and we had to swap hours with someone. I would wholeheartedly recommend this experience to other Worldpackers!!

This was a fantastic experience for a first time solo traveler and volunteer opportunity through world packers. Chris and Kumi were incredibly friendly and welcoming, the cafe was so fun to work in and all of the staff members are so nice and easy to get along with. It was a great experience for meeting fellow travelers as well as locals, and having a great mix between work and personal travel. I can't recommend this volunteer opportunity enough, truly it was more than I ever could have hoped for and I'm so happy I did it. Matsumoto is also a lovely part of Japan to be in.

This was my first ever volunteering experience, and I know it was the first for several other volunteers as well. I truly think this was the perfect place to start. Chris and Kumi have created such a special place where I felt super comfortable and I'm glad I had the chance to meet them. The shifts were something I looked forward to because I had the opportunity to meet so many amazing people from all over the world. The tasks were fair, and there was always time to enjoy Matsumoto and its surroundings.

I'm very happy with my experience at Nawate Guesthouse. It was my first time using Worldpackers, and from the very beginning I felt welcome. I learned a lot from its international atmosphere and had the chance to enjoy the Japanese Alps. I'm already looking forward to coming back.
