The Experience

We are a couple with two daugthers, trying to establish a sustainable farm, based on permaculture and regenerative agriculture principles, in a 12 acres farm in the north of Spain. We bought the farm 15 years ago, completely refurbished the house and are now working on designing and building the infrastructure (barns, chicken coops, fences, swales, ponds, terraces...) and planting trees, shrubs and herbs to create a beautiful and resilient farm.

I had a great time at the Farm. Mario and his family are super friendly and welcoming. The work was very physical, but you plan your tasks as you wish and Mario was always patient and willing to explain and even educate me beyond my tasks. The area is very beautiful. The farm is in the mountains and has a great view. The Sea and Laredo is only half an hour by bus away. It's a great place to enjoy nature with hiking trails and a river down in Gibaja, where you can swim. Daily lunch together was also very nice. Mario is a good cook and you can learn a lot about spanish culture/people.

Being my first experience as a volunteer, I couldn't be more grateful for how kind, respectful, and warm that Mario, Izaskun and the girls have been to me. From the first day, I felt welcomed and confident enough to express my concerns and ideas. It's the perfect place for anyone who wants to learn about permaculture, renewable energy, gardening, and farm animals.

My experience at the project was wonderful and enriching. I learned new activities thanks to Mario, who explains with patience and willingness, in addition to being an excellent cook. I stayed in a camper with beautiful views of the countryside and the mountains, privacy, a dry toilet and a warm shower. I carry lovely memories of a charming family, loving animals, and the peace that nature offers. An experience I wholeheartedly recommend! 🌿🐴💚

I didn't know in advance that you'd be staying in a motorhome, somewhat remote, without power and insulation. Especially the toilet and shower, which are self-built and outdoors, I found uncomfortable. The tasks were good, the family is nice, but you're pretty much on your own.

Dear Louise
The profile has photos of the caravan, which is presented as accommodation.
The farm is isolated, in a beautiful setting, which we offer as a place to disconnect.
The dry toilet and the shower, equipped and with hot water, are not designer, but sustainable.
I regret that this experience led you to break your commitment to stay and leave without notice.
I hope these clarifications help you in the future to align your expectations before traveling.
