It was an interesting experience; the place is very beautiful because it is surrounded by nature, which makes it calm and ideal for disconnecting. However, there are some areas that need improvement, especially the volunteers' kitchen area. The conditions were not the best since there was a presence of mice, and only on the last day of my stay did they fumigate against the mice, which affects the comfort and hygiene of the space. I think with some improvements in these areas the volunteering experience could be much better.

The space is described by the host as a simple and rustic place, yet welcoming. But it's not actually an unsanitary place. Ten people sleeping on shabby bunk beds, extremely old mattresses, in the heat of nearly 40 degrees in Rio de Janeiro, without even a ceiling fan, is inhumane. The kitchen's dirt is not even worth commenting on. Do not romanticize precarious life. Volunteering should be a fair exchange and is becoming a source of cheap labor and unhealthy living.

Rafaela, you didn’t stay 24 hours at the campsite and yet you were able to make all this assessment? The other more than 250 volunteers have opinions different from yours. I think only the evaluation of your previous host says it all.

My experience at the campsite, with regard to the social aspect, was good. As for the volunteer work, it was positive. The dormitory was reasonable. But there are two issues that turned my experience from positive to the opposite. First, the kitchen serving the volunteers is an unhealthy and decaying space. It does not have the minimum coziness that a kitchen should have; nor do other appliances and utensils offered to volunteers have the same quality as the kitchen's physical structure. Second, the Fazenda's caretaker does not have a filter to communicate - rude.

Roberto replied

Darley, I’m surprised that you would make this kind of criticism, especially you who didn’t contribute at all to the volunteers’ collective. On several occasions the other volunteers complained that you didn’t help with cleaning and even dragged your feet with the shift tasks.
The volunteers have their own kitchen, utensils and appliances. It is the volunteers’ responsibility to take care of the equipment offered and keep their kitchen and rooms clean.
You were lucky that I asked for the deadline to evaluate you.

I've never had any problems with the host, Roberto. However, I must say I had some uncomfortable experiences with some volunteers who were present. Still, I highly recommend the farm — it was my second time there — but, unfortunately, some companions ended up making the experience a bit unpleasant.

Volunteering at the camping was the best experience of my life; I usually say that I washed my soul in this place. The host is an incredible person who cares about the well-being and the coexistence of everyone in the space.

A Fazenda is a natural refuge in the capital city, full of life and nature. Many trees, birds, frogs and possibilities to explore and discover. Roberto is very polite, helpful and also organized. The stay was great and introduced me to incredible people with whom I shared this time, lots of conversation, art and cultural integration.

I spent 3 weeks at the campsite and it was, without a doubt, the best volunteering I've ever done. The space is huge, there are natural pools we can use, hammocks, a waterfall, some trails nearby. The volunteers' room has 5 bunk beds, but despite that, the people who were with me respected each other a lot. Roberto is very organized and flexible with the schedule. The main activities are: cleaning and organizing the common areas and chalets that are rented, helping the caretaker with the maintenance of the space, reception and helping on school trips that take place. I met incredible people. I highly recommend it!
