The Experience

Nearly everything we do supports one thing: adventures in food. Come enjoy the pleasures of the table, learn things in getting there and assist at our weekend Table d'Hôte. Immediate need is to transplant frost tender tomatoes, peppers and squash and to sow beans and maybe corn.

I'm writing this honestly so future volunteers can evaluate the experience. The house is in a very isolated area, with no public transportation. Taxis or Uber do not reach the location, so there's no way to go out independently. Most tasks are domestic, and when the restaurant opens, the role is serving as a waiter/waitress, without participating in the kitchen. The atmosphere can be tense, and I did not receive support for my goal of improving my English. The food was abundant and very good.

Bruce (and Jenn) replied

Patricia's review is unfair.

Profiles include "We are 20 km outside of a small town halfway between nowhere and not much." That says that city services may not be available. Patricia never asked what that sentence implied, shared concerns about anything or suggest ways we might support her learning English skills.
Patricia arrived while domestic tasks were the only ones available. In the restaurant everyone starts as a server but she left after her first weekend of dinners.
