The Experience

Hello everyone, my name is Bick(pronounced “Bick”). My family and I belong to the Red Dao ethnic group indigenous to the mountains of Northern Vietnam. We run a homestay and volunteering program with the aim of teaching and promoting the tea culture of the Red Dao people. We hope to share this experience of living and working in a remote mountain village with tourists as a means of creating sustainable income for the local community.

Bikki is the sweetest, kindest host and the best first experience of Worldpackers I could ever hope for. Her family are so nice and caring, always making sure we are taken care of. I had so much fun, enjoying nature in her community, going swimming and feeling calm in the countryside.

I was able to learn so much more about tea than I could ever ask for, and the work she does for her family and community is so inspiring. She had so much insight and knowledge that can't be learned without being there! I would 100% reccomend Bikki and the volunteer experience!

I'll miss you Bikki <333

I think Bikki might be one of the most soulful people I have ever met. She is so intelligent, self-driven, kind, and adorably charismatic. She remembers small details about her guests and it's abundantly clear how deeply she cares about her community. The tea Bikki hand crafts is genuinely made with love and is so comforting. A big thanks to the home mother for being everyone's most sweet mom away from home and to her hilarious nephews for also helping around the homestay. And, of course, the nature in Cao Bo is actually breathtaking and I will miss it forever. Thank you so much, Bikki <3 :)

Dear Bikki I felt like I had lucked out the moment i set foot on your beautiful mountains. Breathtaking place of earth to begin with. Then I met you, such a light, such a force for your community and the vision you have for the future and so many families. I admire your love for home and your determination on making changes on it for the better. I knew i had lucked out again. Lastly, to my surprise i ended up at Há and Vinh's home. I've gained friends hopefully for life ❤️ thank you so much for that gift. English will be brought to the mountains! Excited for the future

My time at the home was like no other volunteer experience I've had. I originally considered doing the Ha Giang loop, and I'm glad I did this instead. You leave knowing more than you did before -- about tea production, the Red Dzao way of life, Vietnam culture -- and with a connection to a community that is irreplaceable & impossible to recreate. One review said, "If you're hesitating about booking, don't," LISTEN! Bich is one of the kindest, funniest, and most knowledgeable people I've ever met. Come and spend 8 days surrounded by greenery, family, and million-dollar views you won't forget.

It's hard to describe how unique my experience at the home was. It quickly became one of my favourite places on earth, with breathtaking landscapes and an authentic local culture that lets you fully immerse yourself. Bikki is a special, genuine person with a big heart. From the start, I felt like more than a volunteer, I felt part of the place. Tasks focus on helping with the homestay's marketing, letting you contribute based on your skills and motivations. My own contribution was limited, as I was sick the first few days and the place is very dynamic and full of activities.
