This was a perfect experience, highly recommended! They welcomed me with a lot of affection and respect. There was very good communication and beautiful moments with a lot of trust. The work was respected as agreed, and when I needed to change hours due to work, they gave me the opportunity. The hostel is beautiful and comfortable, the food is very good. I really enjoyed living near the nature reserve and the hostel beach. The owners of the hostel and the manager are very warm and good people who accompanied us and helped us a lot, even when we were sick. I learned, I had fun and I felt at home.

The hostel that rose from the ashes!
A truly great experience.
Simple, clear, and well-organized tasks.
Quiet neighborhood.
It's far from the beach, but the walk is worth it.
Sandy is a wonderful, dedicated, and attentive person.
I got intoxicated, like an Argentine in the hostel; she took me to the ER and helped me with everything.
I carry the team of volunteers in my heart, just like the hostel, where you feel at home.
It was the first time in my entire backpacking trip that I unpacked my backpack and put everything in the lockers.
Thank you, thank you, and thank you. 🙏🏻

Hostel Moçambique began as an exchange of Worldpackers. Over time, it also developed as an experience of loving and respectful social interaction, with mutual commitment to the obligations within the hostel. Denis is an excellent manager, empathetic and aware of the values of volunteering: a top-notch guy. Sandy and André, the owners, are very kind people. I would like to emphasize Sandy, who was the one I had the most dialogue and contact with of the two: a wonderful woman, super respectful and empathetic. Everything agreed upon has been fulfilled. This will be for me a home in my heart, forever. Gratitude

My first volunteering experience and I have only words of gratitude. I felt very comfortable from the first day. Denis, Sandy and Andrés are excellent people who are very willing to meet the team's needs. I was very happy here, although it is quieter than other areas, but it helped me start my new life in Brazil calmly. There was always respect and communication, and I carry them in my heart at every moment and with every person I met! I haven't left yet and I already want to come back! Thank you, family 🫶

My experience here has been good.
The working hours are very relaxed and short. Thanks to this place I started to experiment more with Brazil's typical foods, I learned about some new customs, and I feel I had a rewarding exchange. Sandy and Denis are very sweet people who welcomed me with a lot of warmth and care. I recommend this place if you are someone who likes to relax and be calm... It's a great place for those who prefer to go slower. It's different if you have expectations of a livelier place with more people.

Unfortunately, this was the worst experience I’ve ever had on the platform. I was quickly accepted for a marketing role, but upon arriving at the hostel I found a situation completely different from what was advertised. The owners were not prepared to receive volunteers: the hostel had many maintenance issues and daily cleaning was extremely poor, with a constant presence of dirt and cockroaches. Even though it wasn't my job, I ended up performing several heavy cleaning tasks beyond the standard; the owners were visibly shaken by what they had been through because they had fallen victim to a scam involving the hostel.

One very complicated person, complaining about everything, trying to boss the other volunteers around, attempted to stir up trouble by speaking badly about the volunteers and even disrupted the hostel by getting in touch with other volunteers who were going to arrive and speaking ill. I had to cancel; I don’t recommend it, it will cause problems in other places. I tried to find other volunteers for her because she wasn’t satisfied with us at this moment; there was a lack of respect toward the manager and the owner, who spoke loudly at the reception and beat their chests.

Unfortunately my experience was not positive at all, and I say this mainly because I am a woman traveling alone.
The volunteer confirmation was extremely quick, with little scrutiny, and the only contact I had with the hostel owner, who is named Sandy, was via WhatsApp.
Upon arriving at the hostel, which is somewhat remote, there was only one male staff/volunteer, with whom I would be alone, supposedly for 3 days.
To make matters worse, the hostel was a mess because it was undergoing renovations.

Sandy replied

Like you yourself said, our renovation was delayed, we needed help, and more volunteers were going to arrive. Being a volunteer is an exchange, not a vacation. When it comes to volunteering with men, I believe you may need to seek psychological help and therapy, because all volunteering has girls and boys; perhaps it would be better to heal yourself and then travel so you don’t end up being charged at the next places you go to.
