The Experience

I was often overwhelmed by the kindness of strangers who opened their homes and let me stay without asking for anything in return. Those experiences shaped my journey and showed me the true spirit of the road. Now, I want to offer that same hospitality to the next generation of pioneers exploring Borneo—a high-standard, comfortable sanctuary with no strings attached. This is my way of honoring the people who helped me.

Darran has a room above his family clinic in which you can stay in exchange for very light, near to no work. The staff is really kind too. The clinic is about an hour's drive away from Kota Kinabalu which is the only major city in the area tho so l'd definitely recommend a rental. The area is pretty remote.
If you fancy a local experience you should definitely go there. Room itself is well equipped with an AC and a shower. A few restaurants are nearby, mostly local food. We visited at raining season which can make exploring challenging.

Sasi and the rest of the team are so nice and really welcomed me! I could even stay a week longer because I had problems with my credit card and everyone took so great the host of me! The work was soo easy, almost a little bit too easy sometimes I felt a little bit guilty because I felt I wasn't really helping…Anyway u habe a lot of free time to explore the surroundings. All in all a very chill and nice experience, thank u so much!

Sasi is a friendly and flexible host who wants to learn about volunteers cultures and have them explore Borneo and have fun. Hours and tasks were kind of up to me, which took me some adjusting to as I'm someone who likes lots of structure, but I enjoyed making promotional videos of the cafe and the host. Accommodation and the town of Tamparuli itself were great, with lots of surrounding nature. I'd recommend this experience. Thank you!

Sasi and his team welcomed me really well! Everyone is so nice there. Tamparuli is a small town surrounded by nature, I would recommend for coming here to know how to drive a scooter. It's so much easier to get around. The taskes are easy to handle. You have a lot of freetime to explore the area. It's a nice place to escape from all the tourists.
