The Experience

¡Hola! We’re two French travelers running a small, friendly hostel near Flores. Our place also includes a restaurant and a small tour operation. Once a week, we organize a community clean-up with local kids — collecting trash, sharing cake, and teaching a bit of French or English. 🧁 This activity is free for them and brings lots of smiles! We’re just a short walk from the beach and the peaceful lakeside. 🌅

I enjoyed my time at the guest house. Most of my work was cleaning and housekeeping, which I was not expecting. I would have loved to have helped more with the non-profit and community, but was happy to support and help out where needed. Janesca and Alexis are extremely kind people and they truly care about the community and are trying to create positive change!

We had a good stay overall. The hosts were incredibly kind, and you could clearly feel their passion for the place. The work tasks were enjoyable and gave plenty of opportunity to be creative during the day, and we appreciated that our wishes were listened to. However, the sleeping arrangement was not as expected, as it turned out to be a loft without privacy. We also would have preferred clearer communication, especially upon arrival.

Our stay at the guest house was a great experience. Janesca and Alexis are very welcoming hosts who run the place with a lot of heart. We helped with housekeeping, guest meals, carpentry, and the weekly activities. The daily workload varies depending on guest needs, so flexibility is important. From time to time we shared meals together, but mostly cooked for ourselves using ingredients provided. Although the sleeping setup was still a bit improvised, our hosts always did their best to make our stay comfortable. Thank you for the great hospitality and all the best for your future NGO.

I volunteered with my friend and I can recommend to do this kind of volunteering together. Janesca is a wonderful friendly woman who runs the Hostal with her whole heart and she always makes sure that the hostal guests feel good and with her energy she will make you smile. We loved the village and Isla de Flores is really close, we could use bikes for free the whole time we stayed which was really cool. Once 1 week they are hosting a project with the local kids, we could see that it was super important for them to be part of the community.
