The Experience

I have just bought a little house with land, not far from the coast in southern Tuscany. It's the fulfilment of a long-term dream. Living here with my dog. I am working no more than 20 hours a week online and spending the rest of the time dedicated to renovating the house and developing the garden, where I intend to plant fruit trees and create a veggie patch and herb garden. I'm originally from UK but been in Italy over 30 years.

We got along great with Marcus from the very beginning, he's a very fun and generous person. He cooked us delicious meals, showed us some of the farm's magic, and taught us about Italian culture. The work schedule was flexible and he always let me choose the tasks I was more interested in. This made everything much more enjoyable and fulfilling. I had fun and learned a lot tackling many different projects, from installing wooden shelves to making clay bricks, and taking down an old storage shed to name a few. This felt like reuniting with an old friend. Grazie mille Marco, arrivederci!

If you read these reviews you'll notice a strong trend of Marcus's limitless hospitality, his wonderful cooking, and the joys of companionship found in his trusty pup Rusty. These things are all true. What I would like to add is a warning. Marcus will happily and frequently discuss the evils of money, the beauty of the farm community, and the overall sour direction the world has been heading. My warning is as follows, his arguments are quite compelling and you risk one day starting your own the farm homestead and handing out anti capitalist literature to your own volunteers. 10/10 will return

I can't say enough good things about Marcus, or the warm, welcoming, and informative experience he shared with my partner and I! He truly opened up his home and brought us into his community, and really took the time to show us around all the local places, ranging from the gorgeous Suvereto to bustling Siena. Not to mention all the beach days! I also learned how to make cob from scratch, which was super cool, and even some Italian🇮🇹. The structure of the day-to-day was organic and collaborative, and always included delicious home-cooked meals and time w/ his pooch Rusty. Arrivederci, Marcus!🫶

A beautiful area to spend time the farm. Marcus is a friendly and welcoming host as well as an excellent cook. The work is manageable and I feel that I have acquired some valuable skills to take with me. I really enjoyed my time here and would highly recommend!

We enjoyed our time volunteering with Marcus. During our stay, we learned how to make adobe bricks, enjoyed trips to the beach, shared music around the campfire in the evenings, and spent time with his family and friends. Marcus cooks delicious meals and gave us the freedom to be creative and contribute ideas for improvements around the house. We also adapted to sleeping in a tent throughout our stay. We wish him all the best with his house projects and future plans.
