The Experience

Hello! I'm Carla, an Italian-Guatemalan doctor by profession ๐Ÿฉบ, an artist by passion and a traveler by rebellion ๐ŸŒŽ. We just started a hostel project in Guatemala City and we're looking for an extra hand with crazy ideas who wants to contribute to the project. We have experience as backpackers in more than 35 countries, so this is not just a business, but a traveler-friendly home. We want to be a space where this community can come together and rest.

Volunteering at Casa Zanate was an amazing first experience. From day one, Carla told me it'd be the easiest volunteering, and she was right. She and Jheff are incredibly kind and flexible. My tasks were simple (check-ins, cleaning common areas, and being available for guests' needs), which made it easy to balance with my full-time remote job. The location in Zona 4 is great (just be mindful and avoid quieter streets at night). Here, I met the coolest people (especially my fellow volunteer!). I truly loved my time here and miss it already. I'd come back in a heartbeat. Highly recommend it!

My experience at the hostel has been wonderful. Beyond volunteering, I found a very special connection with the people, with the place, and with myself. It has been a space for learning, for sharing from the heart, and for feeling that every encounter has a purpose. I carry memories, lessons, and a beautiful spiritual connection that will stay with me.

My volunteering at the hostel was a wonderful and unforgettable experience. Carla and Jeff are exceptional hosts: kind, attentive, and always willing to make you feel at home. This place not only offers a space to stay, but also an opportunity to connect with incredible people and experience a true cultural exchange. I carry memories, lessons, and friendships that I will always keep in my heart. Thank you, Carla and Jeff, for your affection, trust, and hospitality. I recommend the hostel to anyone who wants to live an authentic and full experience.

The experience at the hostel was wonderful, from the first day I arrived I felt at home. Carla and Jheff are very good people with a big heart. The tasks were as mentioned; there is flexibility with the schedules and you can also practice English because people from all over arrive.
I met a lot of people and I think we made a great team. I was coming from a few tough days and the guys were a great help, a refuge for me. The farewell was difficult :( I miss them already!
