A Quaint Olive and Sheep Farm
This opportunity would be a wonderful experience for volunteers who are seeking to grow as individuals. It is an ideal location for those looking to get in touch with nature and meet like-minded individuals. My farm is also only a 15 minute bus ride away from the beautiful seaside town of Foca. This location is also located just an hour bus ride from the big city of Izmir. Know that tasks given can be completed at a flexible schedule. This is a wonderful opportunity to unplug and enjoy nature because I have limited access to wi-fi on my property. It can be available for basic communication purposes when necessary, but the town of Foca is just a short distance away with plenty of wi-fi cafes!

My name is Umit. I was born in Turkey before spending 19 years living on the East Coast of America. I moved back to Turkey in 2005, and I now own a small sheep farm in Foca. It is currently just me managing my property, so I greatly appreciate any help I can receive. Travelers will be treated like family during their time in my home. You can expect to enjoy sharing our cultures, making and enjoying delicious meals together, and learning from each other.

Everything written by previous travelers is true. Umit is welcoming, teacher of animals of the farm, as well as cooking, Turkish history and much more. He encourages you to take in the local sights and activities, like the farmers market and Izmir bazaar. His instructions are easy to follow. Work is easy and gratifying to care for the animals, the farm, baby lambs, dogs, cats and chickens. Umit shared his family with me and will forever be a part of my heart. Get a little dirty and enjoy the experience!

This was my first time volunteering on the farm, and it turned out to be a really great experience. Umit was friendly, patient, and always willing to teach, which made everything much easier and more enjoyable. Even though the weather wasn't great on some days, it didn't take away from the experience. I'm really grateful that my first volunteering experience was such a positive one, and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone thinking about it.

Participating in volunteering in Foça on the farm was a very positive experience. We had the opportunity to learn firsthand how the farm routine works, from the daily care of the farm to the simplest but most essential tasks of everyday life in the countryside. In addition, Ümit is a very pleasant person to meet. He showed us more about Turkish culture, customs, and hospitality. It was a period of great learning, exchange, and growth, which will certainly remain fondly in our memories.

Ümit made me feel like a family member living in the house. I learnt lots about how the running of the farm, the tasks were always varied and interesting, and we cooked delicious food together every day. It was a completely unique and interesting experience especially to escape to the countryside.
