Backpacker Al Katre

It is an old traditional house full of charm, in the heart of the Judería neighborhood, centrally located in Córdoba, Andalusia, Spain. Very close to the city's most important monuments, and the city is really beautiful with many attractions.

The staff consists of three women who handle reception, in different shifts, one person dedicated to cleaning, and the volunteers who help with cleaning and maintenance. Ana and Victoria are the owners of the hostel, very happy to be in the travel business and delighted to make people feel at home. We always treat the volunteer staff as if they were part of our own family.

Wonderful experience at Alkatre Hostel. They fulfilled everything we agreed on, and during a month they became family to me 🫶🏻.. I'm taking away very fond memories, unforgettable moments, and the affection of a lovely group of coworkers who made this experience even more special. Thank you for everything!

Highly recommended! This was my first volunteering experience and I'm glad I did it in Al-the guest house. The work is not difficult and the tasks are exactly as they are written in the description of the host. The hostel has an amazing location near the main sights. Córdoba is also perfectly situated for exploring Andalucia. The hostel is chill; you can meet a lot of travelers, but don't expect it to be like some party hostel.
The only thing that was missing is air conditioning in the volunteer's room. If you can't stand the heat, I would avoid summer. It is a very beautiful hostel with nice workers. Thank you!

More than a review, take it as a warning. While the place is welcoming and my experience after the second week was optimal (thanks to my ability to adapt), it was extremely difficult to get Ana to be satisfied with the tasks I was asked to perform, since 48 hours were enough to realize what she was really like.. I regret to say she is a person who lacks empathy and education. She has no tact when saying things and her cortisol is extremely deregulated. In any situation that seems remotely \"bad\" or \"deficient\" (in her eyes) she will humiliate you.

Ana y Victoria replied

Hi Valentina,
I’m sorry you felt that way.
I think you came in with the wrong idea about what volunteering is. It’s a matter of attitude, and it’s clear you had no interest at all.
I hope life goes well for you.

My first volunteering experience at the house was incredible.
All the people there were wonderful with me, starting with Ana, who spreads her joy and makes you feel not like a simple volunteer, but as part of a family.
Patri, with her spontaneity, always willing to lend you a hand, just like Anita and Paki and the volunteers Rafa, Diego, Gabri and Meli.
I do not recommend the experience to people with a small heart, because a little piece of you will stay there.
I would only suggest a greater balance in the shifts and work tasks,
Arrivederci, family of the house.
