Casa Colorida Matriarca
Our house is located in the oceanic region of Niterói, in Engenho do Mato, a neighborhood with strong rural ancestry, although relatively close to the city.
Here you will find a mix between beaches, trails, tourist spots and small bonfires and guitar in the late afternoon.
We are located a 10-minute bus ride from the beautiful beaches of the oceanic region such as Itaipu, where you can find the fishermen's village and can buy a fresh and inexpensive fish caught by the local community, or Itacoatiara where besides enjoying the beach you can venture up the costão trail to enjoy an incredible view from above.
We are near the famous Caminhos de Darwin trail, projects like BEM (Biblioteca do Engenho do Mato), a community-management initiative where you can read books or take free workshops such as Kung Fu and percussion, and the lively Rural Park, a municipal project where you can participate in classes such as capoeira, dance, fighting and various sports.
Here you sometimes find horses roaming the streets and you can hire a lesson at one of the neighborhood's several equestrian centers or wake up early to take a Hawaiian outrigger canoe class on the beach, or go to the city park to paraglide if you want to try something different! :D
And surely you mustn\'t miss meeting our neighbor, the famous - and extremely important - Quilombo do Grotão, where after a 6-minute trail through the forest you reach there and you\'ll understand why they have the best feijoada (in a wood-fired oven and clay pot) in town while listening to high-quality Raiz samba.
We are located next to the Serra da Tiririca Environmental Preservation Park, while at the same time we are six streets above a supermarket, a pharmacy, a newspaper stand, a homemade lunch place, a bus stop, among other local shops with easy access.

Here our house is simple, there\'s still much to do, but we enjoy life and move forward with our project in a fluid and joyful way.
Our garden is quite large, there are fruit trees, PANCs, and we are currently starting our vegetable garden.
Here at the Casa Colorida Matriarca space you can choose a pleasant corner to camp, enjoy the pool, the view of the Serra, the sound of birds at dawn and dusk, make a bonfire, cook in our equipped kitchen, wash your clothes using our washing machine, get tips for outings and who knows learn a little bit of various things.
Our ideas involve organizing a cultural space that is increasingly beautiful, comfortable and functional for the flow of workshops, discussion circles, bonfire circle with music, events and immersions linked to, among others, topics that already take place such as:
Sacred femininity, forest medicines, Indigenous circle, discussion circle or artisanal activity, spiritual immersions or workshops with themes linked to the environment (horticulture, permaculture, Bioconstruction, recycling), rituals, Ritualistic Photography etc.
• for these potential activities our volunteers can count on significant discounts if they want to participate •

Our rhythm is daytime, we usually start our activities in the morning, and you will have the afternoon and the night to enjoy your stay. We respect the agreed work hours very much, value moments of rest and nighttime tranquility, with low lights and attention to low noise.
However, at times we host meetings, gatherings, celebrations among friends where music is welcome, the fire, hugs and smiles.
Come along with us? :)
We are a single-mother household with three young children, where we are developing a space project; in an initial and transitional phase; linked to actions for more sustainable living, social questioning, democratic education and holistic health of body, mind and spirit called Casa Colorida Matriarca.
Here, in addition to renovations, maintenance, cleaning, creations and home demands, we occasionally work on topics such as food autonomy, bioconstruction, permaculture, reusing materials and waste disposal, as well as occasionally opening space for talks about clear and non-violent communication, intimacy, spirituality, goals and different life visions, self-responsibility, building self-love, channeling, manifestation, among others.

Here WE VALUE:
the responsible work, clear and well-defined agreements, respect for the house routine, moments of rest and leisure, cultural exchange, good communication in relationships, learning, the possibility to approach each challenge life offers and the art of navigating the world with ever lighter and more loving steps!

Here WE DO NOT VALUE:
The use of synthetic drugs, daily and/or excessive alcohol use, excessive cellphone use (but in common areas), smoking tobacco indoors or near children, use of profanity and excessively loud voices.
It\'s important to note that this is a house where children live and as such they observe and may reproduce adult postures. An important note is that our children have gone through a complex separation process, so they sometimes express jealousy, anger, disorganization, agitation and quirks that lead us to try as much as possible to maintain a healthy routine of cleaning, peace and organization. If you have difficulties with basic rules of good cohabitation (cleanliness, schedules and organization, education) please DO NOT COME!
Our children are a priority! :')
In our current volunteer program we count with a small daily contribution fee of 15 reais.
This fee is used to provide amenities for the volunteers themselves and refers to the use of:
Wi-Fi 24hrs
Kitchen gas
Washing machine (weekly use)
Detergents and washing powder
Water and electricity usage charges
