Casa da Montanha

A Casa da Montanha is located in the Mantiqueira Highlands, the rural area of Aiuruoca, MG. Surrounding the house there are forests and mountains, a beautiful view, including from the chalet, which has a bathroom and an equipped kitchen, where the volunteer will have privacy since the accommodation is available for a single person, a couple, or two friends. In leisure time you can hike through forests and mountains. I am implementing the agroforestry system, in addition to maintenance: earthen paint on the walls and varnish on the deck. Come learn and/or share knowledge and experiences.

For most of the tasks, I will assist the volunteer. The volunteer will stay in the spacious private chalet (suite) located about 10 meters from the main house. The kitchen inside the chalet is equipped for the volunteer to prepare their meals. Breakfast is provided by the host. Beautiful trails in the mountains and waterfalls of Aiuruoca's rural area.

Maria Regina is a very wise person, and it was very enriching to learn gardening techniques, how to make concrete, and earth paint!
The work was quite easygoing; the instructions were clear, and Maria Regina was always available to answer questions and help.
Breakfast was well served and prepared with a lot of care; it was enough to get through the morning peacefully!
Unfortunately, I couldn't do hikes with Maria Regina because the weather didn't cooperate, but for anyone who has the opportunity, I hope you make the most of it!

The Montanhismo project is an amazing place among the mountains of southern Minas. The host Maria is very helpful and taught me to deal with the land in a way I didn't know, and she makes excellent cakes. The volunteering was rich in learning experiences. We also did some hikes in the region. I highly recommend it.

Very grateful for your calm presence and your constant willingness to help. I was happy that you got to try out the mezzanine in the chalet.

During my stay I was able to help with the management of the garden beds and I learned a lot from Maria; she is a very dear person and always willing to teach you and explain everything! She is also always attentive to the volunteer's needs and usually invites you to go on hikes and learn more about the countryside here. The place itself is beautiful! The volunteer stays in a separate chalet and there are many hummingbirds there; there is also a very beautiful mosque nearby and breakfast is great!

The property is beautiful and the arrangements were kept. However, the chalet is not very comfortable and, one night, a rat came in and kept entering and leaving, making it impossible for me to sleep. For that reason, I was accommodated in the house. What bothered me most occurred after my departure: I received several messages demanding a cleaning of the bathroom that had not been requested. It was asked only that I sanitize the seat and the flush and remove the trash, which I did. During the stay I did not receive any negative feedback. Later there was also a comment questioning my ethical learning; I considered it disproportionate

Hello Maria, you are not telling the truth; what was requested was that you pass alcohol-soaked paper on the toilet, however you didn't even open the alcohol. Yes, I sent messages with photos of the dirty paper towels I cleaned from the toilet you used. There was a lack of humility and gratitude for having sheltered you, at your request, inside my house, and I even offered you all meals. Regarding the newly built chalet, yes, the closing of the gap to keep the rat from entering is already being arranged.

The dog's situation made me feel so bad that I left there after the fourth day. He has been stuck in a kennel for two years, never leaving. I spoke with the host and she agreed to donate the dog to someone, but days later she backed out. She said she would take steps to improve his life, even though she hadn't done so in the last two years in which he lives like this. If she finds a little house for him to warm up in on nights that are very cold, take him out of the kennel for two hours a day, remove the heavy iron chain that stays on his neck all the time, remove the feces from the kennel, instead of gathering them in a corner, perhaps the situation would improve.

Hello Isabela, your short stay here moved me. Yes, I can do more for Baleia. The traumas I went through with him due to the attitude of the locals from the countryside: attack, poisoning (leaving him hospitalized for 10 days between life and death), threats. I ended up feeling stuck due to worry and fear. I bought a new leash and harness, I was only walking him on my property, today I managed to take him to the Mosque.
Thank you very much
