Centre Xam-Xamle

We believe our program is a true win-win experience. By volunteering, you will contribute your skills to support our community, while in return you’ll enjoy an authentic cultural immersion. In doing so you will discover the warmth, traditions, and daily life of Senegal. It’s a unique opportunity to make a real impact while living like a local.

In addition, all our volunteering activities will help you meet a large array of Senegalese locals, especially children, which will open hearts and minds to the challenges, joys and aspirations in this part of the world.

We pair volunteers with one of three local families depending on where volunteers chose to volunteer and which is the best match.

Each family are local, offering you opportunities to be Senegalese by providing you with great food, local trips and the true village life. Each family also has energetic children who will always be keeping you busy!

You’ll be treated with respect, kindness, and open arms, just like one of the family. Senegalese people pride themselves on hospitality "Teranga" and will receive great joy from treating you like one of their own.

Before your arrival, you can also connect with Matt in England who speaks both English and French, has spent much time volunteering in Senegal himself and will assit with any prearrival questions, queries and concerns while also offering support once on the ground if required.

Here, you won’t just be a volunteer—you’ll become family. 💛

I'd dreamed of an experience like this since primary school. Thanks to Matt's excellent organisation, everything ran smoothly, and whenever I needed help, he was always ready to support me. The kind family I stayed with made me feel welcomed, understood and safe at all times. Teaching children during the seminars gave me valuable insights into their lives and helped me learn more about myself. Some situations were unexpected and challenging, but that's exactly why I came, and I left stronger, more confident and grateful. I couldn't have chosen a better first volunteering experience.

The contact before the trip was really reassuring.
Staying in the village of Yayeme was an unprecedented experience for me—I got to see what real, authentic daily life is actually like.
The whole host family was super friendly and took such great care of me. I don’t speak French, and their English was very limited, but that didn't stop us from connecting and being kind to one another.
Just a heads-up for anyone interested: accommodation in Yayeme gets extremely hot during the summer. Even with an electric fan, it doesn't help much, so just be prepared for the heat!

Fimela has become home. I suppose that when you volunteer in the 'educational field' the goals are: to teach, to contribute, to have an impact on the children and society at an educational level… And I am proud to say that all of that has been more than fulfilled. But without a doubt I have learned much more than I could ever teach. Fimela and its people are masters of life, in its precious simplicity. Thanks to the constant help and support of Matt and Chantal, I have felt guided and cared for at all times, by them from afar and by my dear family there.

An absolutely unforgettable experience. My volunteering in Senegal was much more than a simple stay: I had the chance to live with a local family, share their daily life, and fully immerse myself in their culture. The welcome was warm and authentic from start to finish. The organization was excellent, and Matthew was always available, attentive, and very professional, which allowed me to feel confident throughout the stay.

I was immediately welcomed into the team at the project and I felt quite at ease despite it being my first time in Africa and my not being very confident in my French-speaking.Everyone was very helpful! I had adventures suggested and/or organized for me on days off. The host family was super kind and hospitable! The room I was in was not super comfortable (it was really hot most nights—but oh well we adapt.) The kids were fun (also challenging) to work with. We did French text from the Lion King and English poetry; at the end we had a little showing! It was truly a special experience for me!

Thank you so much Danika for your kind words and your hard work. You had your hands full teaching the kids but you did great! We are so grateful.

Thanks for the advice about the room. We've given some money to Fatou to make the room a bit more comfortable for futur volunteers. You are welcome back any time!
