Cup of Hope
Volunteering for a social impact programme such as ours provides a unique opportunity to contribute directly to positive change in a community. It allows volunteers to make a meaningful difference, develop deep, genuine connections with locals, and feel a true sense of purpose. It can also broaden perspectives for both volunteers and recipients, and help both parties cultivate a deeper understanding of societal issues.
We hope all volunteers who choose to join us will be as dedicated to creating a safe, respectful and nurturing environment for the children of Ruiru as we are.
My name is Victor, and I run Cup of Hope with my friend John. We run several programmes, the most prominent of which is our feeding programme, which provides food for anywhere between 70 and 250 children six days a week. For many of the children we feed, our meal is the only one they’ll get that day; this is especially true during the school holidays, when school meals aren’t available, and the number of children who come to us for food can reach over 300.
We also run football and boxing coaching for some extremely talented athletes. At Cup of Hope, we fundamentally believe that sport can change lives for the better, and we have seen the positive impact of our programmes on many of our students over the past eight years. Our aim is to improve the lives of as many children in Ruiru as possible.
