Doxandem Palmarin

Stay with a local family in Senegal. No program, no tasks. Just real life: shared meals, conversations, laughter, and meaningful human connections that often continue long after you leave.

I’m Nicolas.

I spend part of the year in Palmarin, where I got to know several families over time.

Doxandem started from a simple situation: being invited into a home and sharing daily life.

I didn’t build a program from that.
I simply wanted to make this kind of experience possible for others.

Today, I stay in the background.
I connect people with families and make sure things can happen — but what matters is what takes place on the ground.

I had such a lovely experience staying with my warm and friendly host family in the home! The food was delicious and the accomodation was comfortable. I helped with simple house chores, like fetching well water and sweeping, but otherwise had plenty of time to just hang out with my family, sitting under the mango tree and enjoying the sea breeze. I felt very immersed in the culture and community with opportunities to visit the salt pools and watch wrestling on the beach. I so appreciate the patience of my host family with teaching me some Serer and working around my lack of French!

It wasn't just a trip, but a shift in perspective. I feel incredibly lucky to have lived such an authentic experience, full of simplicity, real connections, and shared moments. The family who welcomed me gave far more than I ever expected, with a quiet and natural generosity. the home felt magical and hard to describe. After a year of traveling the world, this was my most powerful and genuine experience, far from tourism and deeply human. I felt like part of them, and saying goodbye was truly hard. It's the kind of experience that stays with you and makes you want to leave again.

Sara,
thank you for these words, truly.

You came with curiosity and openness, and you naturally found your place in the family. Nothing was forced, nothing was planned, and it felt real.

This only happens when someone is truly present. Thank you for being there the way you were.

You will always have a home in Palmarin.

I have absolutely loved this experience. I was instantly welcomed in the family and felt so good. The work is pretty easy, you should count at least 2h a day for filming and editing. But I could arrange my schedule freely and was able to visit the citys and places next to the home and do little trips often. The people were so lovely and it's a true immersion in a new culture which was incredibly interesting. Obviously you have to be prepared for a simple way of living, no western standard can be expected. A time I will never forget and i will come back 100%. I recommend!!!!

The experience was so great. I lived with a family and captured everyday moments. They were very attentive to me, and I was able to truly immerse myself in the culture. Regarding work, I was able to manage my schedule freely. I highly recommend it to those adventurers who have no problem living with animals and insects and living a humble life.
