Eko Patagonia

We are at a lake with a beautiful view, with the opportunity to participate in a sustainable project, getting to know the local culture up close, sharing with locals, learning and taking care of the planet. Around the lake you can go trekking, fishing, kayaking, see waterfalls, work alongside the land, build and propose ideas friendly to the environment.
IMPORTANT: HIGHLY REMOTE!
The distances between one attraction and another are very long. The lake is very remote and sits at the bottom of a large hill, about a mile up from the bottom to the top. Also, from the Balmaceda airport (BBA) to Coyhaique city is approximately 1 hour. From Coyhaique to Eko is 35 minutes of pavement and 15 minutes on a rough gravel road. From Eko to some of the grand attractions in the area can be 2 hours or more. When you are on the lake it’s beautiful, peaceful and isolated. There are no food or transportation services nearby, and those which are 12 km away do not operate regular hours or are not reliable, and they close frequently for no reason.

We are a pair of caretakers at a hotel just starting out, with a sustainable project that is friendly to the planet. We both speak English and are looking to gain experience with travelers and receive help in our daily tasks by building, maintaining the facilities and the cleanliness of the place. We seek flexible people, able to integrate into our day-to-day; we provide meals and a place to feel at home. Once a week we travel to Coyhaique and we can pick you up and drop you off as needed, but we do not guarantee transportation. We can pick you up from Balmaceda Airport or from Coyhaique.

My experience was positive. I carried out activities in carpentry, cleaning, and construction. The place is beautiful, and the facilities during my stay were comfortable. I was well received and, despite some communication issues at the end, everything was resolved. the lodge is incredible, and I recommend the experience. the lodge is still under development, so those who choose to volunteer will have the opportunity to contribute and help build the history of this place.

Fantastic experience at the lodge! David, the owner, was so welcoming and really treated us like we were one of the lodge guests. Work we did: painted a building, re-organized a building and storage area, built a path to one of the cabins, made food, helped in organising one of the cabins. Plenty of off time - we were taken into town and went to see a local Expo, went on walks and swam in the lake. We were introduced to some local people and get to experience a bit of the local culture, which was great.

David replied

It means a lot to hear about your time with us at the lake. The path you built to the cabin creates exactly the kind of connection we hope for - both literal and figurative. Those shared meals and quiet moments swimming in the lake often become the memories that stay longest.
Thank you for rolling up your sleeves alongside us - reorganizing spaces and painting doesn't just help physically, it brings new energy that guests feel when they arrive.

Startup adventure travel operation in a gorgeous setting. Simple daily chores (washing, cleaning, light work) shouldered with plenty of time for hiking and local contact. Settling is very comfortable and beautiful.

Gorgeous location, remote lake at the foot of beautiful mountains, with amazing hikes directly accessible and drives to amazing waterfalls and rivers and glaciers and mountains. We had a car, which made it even easier, but Diego and David provide transportation for the world Packer workers. Since the lodge is not yet open for guest, we stayed in one of the houses, and it was truly amazing. Incredible views.
