El Nido

Why choose us?

Because here you don't come to “volunteer”
you come to live.

This is not a place to pass through... it's a home.
A living house, with the smell of freshly baked bread and morning coffee, with books in every corner, cats sleeping in the sun, a dog that always wants to play, others who only want to sleep and three children who love hugs.

Here there are laughs, silence, soft music… and days when calm is the norm.
If you like warm humanity, simple life, and feeling part of something real, then this is your place.

We share the days with respect, tenderness and freedom.
We like to care, cook, create, laugh, talk without hurry.
It's not just about cleaning or helping… but about sharing life.

In this house art and spirituality coexist with the everyday.
We celebrate the simple, the present, the bonds.
And although sometimes there is chaos, there is also a lot of love.

If you're looking for a place where you can be yourself, where you feel at peace and welcomed as in a small refuge between the sea and the mountains...

Welcome to Nido.
Here the doors are open.
And the heart, too.

We are Laura and Javi. We live in a beautiful town called Cullera, a town of warm beaches with river, mountains and even a lake, which hosts in summer festivals such as Medusa or Zebra.

Our house is creative and cozy, a place full of books, warm food in the kitchen and life... where you can be yourself and share with respect and tenderness.

We are of the Ásatrú religion, a spirituality based on ancient Nordic gods, in respect for the ancestors and the spirits of nature. I think it can be a culturally interesting experience for any volunteer.

We love cooking any type of dish and we adapt to what you need. For us, cooking is part of a ritual of love and care.

And if you like animals... You're in the right place!

We share life with our three children, three dogs and ten cats.

We like to share our home as a space where you can be yourself without judgments, with a living together based on respect, tenderness and the small details. Here you will find calm, respect for silence, personal rhythms and moments of pause.
You will also find an environment where mutual care and work done with heart have as much value as order and cleanliness. This is a home where art, words, rituals and bonds coexist with the tasks of each day.

Of course, as in any house, there is chaos sometimes, but also a lot of warmth. We are calm people: sofa afternoons, soft chats, sunny walks, dinners watching The Simpsons and moments of reading or family games. Javi and I are writers, so there are books everywhere here and creativity breathes in every corner.

We are looking for a volunteer to support us in the essentials and help us in the afternoon schedule to: keep the kitchen clean after each meal and dinner, clean the cats' litter boxes and take care of their space and some other tasks that will be announced in advance.
You will have mornings free and two days a week completely to rest.

In this house we practice ásatrú, a Nordic spirituality that connects with nature, cycles, the old gods and the ancestors. Maybe you'll see small nisses (similar to Christmas gnomes) hidden around the house: to us they are guardians of the home. It is not necessary that you share our religion... nor much less! It is enough to respect it, as we will respect your beliefs.

We will adapt to the needs you have regarding diet: vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free or whatever you prefer. You will have your own room, small but cozy, internet throughout the house, with a data SIM card and all meals included.

This home is not a place to pass through, it is a shared-life experience. If it resonates with you, welcome. We await you with open hearts.

Laura and Javi are an excellent couple; their tasks were clear. I learned to be more confident with the animals; the way they treat them, as well as with us, was very good. I learned about their cultures; also with another volunteer, Wendy, incredible; it was a pleasure to be with her. Thank you very much for everything.

The tasks to be carried out in the house are very simple, but there are no habits of order and cleanliness in the house, so I was cleaning the kitchen and/or bathrooms all day, in addition to the dogs' pee and poop.
It was extremely frustrating to finish cleaning, and have to start again since if someone went to the kitchen, everything became dirty again, disorganized and with pee.
In the app, a private room is promised, but it is shared with another volunteer.
It would be very useful to put photos of the house in the app as well.
Anyway, the people who live there are kind and friendly.

I'm 100% sure that what you were looking for was a simple place to spend a month in the summer, and that's why meeting the minimal tasks that were required overwhelmed you.
The kitchen, yes, it gets dirty, but it turns out that among the few tasks you had, keeping it clean was one of them. What, you clean the kitchen and the bathrooms all day? Of course you did—since you were at the beach.
Anyway... Not much more to say. In this house you were treated very well and we were very transparent from the start. We are rescuers and we have animals.

A fun family, amazing, kind and super intelligent children. A peaceful atmosphere; I was free to cook my own meals and also share with the family enjoyable moments over lunch and dinner. Daily activities with two days off. Thank you for the stay. Culhera is a very beautiful village, with stunning mountains for those who enjoy trail running. Hugs

It was a wonderful experience; Laura and Javi are very loving and fun.
Their three children are very well-behaved and respectful.
Despite being a large family, including 13 cats and a dog, it is not chaotic at all; the cats have their own space and it's also very easy to clean with the system and the products they have at home.
If you want to feel at home, this is it.
P.S.: Laura cooks delicious meals.
