Flemingo

Volunteers should be capable horse riders, as this will maximise their experience. They will be able to enjoy the opportunity to experience Australian life on horseback in peaceful bush lands, viewing Australian wildlife such as goannas, echidnas, kookaburras, kangaroos, koalas ...
We have lots of horses available for your adventures on our miles and miles of tracks.
If you like cities and lots of people, then this is not for you. If you love nature and quiet then you are in the right place!
Please only apply if you can ride horses confidently ie know how to change leads and diagonals; can walk, trot and canter as a balanced rider. I am not in a position to "teach you how to ride". For those who can ride, I will teach you about the specialised field of equitation known as endurance riding.

Davo & I, are passionate about Arabian horses. Our hobby is to complete in endurance events and we love to share my hobby with other liked minded people. In exchange for help on the farm and/or in the home, you will be treated as one of the family. All lodging, internet and meals supplied. You will have your own bedroom in our home and join us in preparing and eating breakfast and the evening meal. We always start the day with a good Aussie breakfast consisting of bacon and eggs, along with a coffee. If we go somewhere, you are welcome to come along as well for the experience. We usually eat out once per month in Inverell and routinely travel to endurance events.

Fleming was an incredible experience. Clare and Davo were very kind. They live in a peaceful place. Their horses are adorable and beautiful. It's a real paradise.
At first it was difficult because I didn't know the English equestrian vocabulary, but I was able to learn lots of new words. I improved my English and gardening skills 😄
I would recommend this experience to anyone who loves horses.
Clare prepares great meals in the evening and Davo a great breakfast.
Thanks Clare and Davo for your hospitality. I will never forget my experience with you. I wish you all the best.

This incredible experience that I would do again without hesitation.
I could never say thank you enough for the opportunities you have given to me.
I was supposed to come for 3 weeks I am lucky to have stayed there for more than 3 months. I learned a lot with you and I am infinitely grateful. I loved riding with you and your amazing horses!

Thank you for being the people you are and for welcoming me so well, I felt at home.

Flemingo paradise will always be with me.

I have very mixed feelings about this experience... I had a great time, discovering the world of equestrian endurance and taking part in my 1st race! I really appreciated the comfort and the heavenly life the horses have there. :)
Davo was adorable with me, really patient, he taught me a lot of things.
Clare was sometimes very lovely but sometimes too hard on me. Maybe because my English wasn't good enough for her.
In contrast, I'm really unhappy to have discovered after 4 weeks that they put Borax (detergent) in my glass every day without my knowledge or consent, which made me sick. :(

Dear Tyffanie
I’m sorry to hear only now of your mixed feeling, particularly since Davo and I went out of our way repeatedly to make your stay memorable and enjoyable, incorporating a 40km event into your Australian experience. We pride ourselves on providing our overseas guests with a great horse experience in our little Aussie paradise. We have been welcoming backpackers into our home for close to 10 years now … many we are still in regular contact with and they consider Davo and I to be their Aussie parents. We feel blessed to have shared in their life journey.
You are mistaken Tyffanie. I added 1tbsp of apple cider vinegar to Davo and my orange juice each morning. You just had orange juice.
Unfortunately, Tyffanie received notice of her acceptance into Uni Psychology while at Flemingo. From that moment she was distracted from enjoying life on Flemingo. She emersed herself into her room and began her uni studies. I feel if she could have left at that point in time she would have.
I wish Tyffanie all the best with her studies. She is a lovely young lady.
Cheers Clare

I was completely and utterly welcomed with open arms and felt comfortable and part of the family thought my whole stay at Flamingo.
If you put the time and effort in there is so much knowledge and understanding to gain from them, not only about horses but a whole bunch of life experience as well.
Clare will give you endless opportunities to ride and therefore improve your riding in heaps and bounds.
My entire experience there was nothing but insightful and wonderful.
Flemingo is truly an unique experience to be had, one you should definitely jump at the chance to have if are so lucky!
