Fridhem

Fridhem is at the heart of the small traditional village of Stjärnsund, Dalarna. We are a holistic retreat and course centre and there are lots of interesting people who have been drawn to live here. We have a large old course building from 1890 and a two hectare forest garden that are great places to learn practical skills.

Our centre has a 1GB fiber internet connection which makes it ideal for volunteers who need good connectivity during their travels.

We are a small team.
Kelsey, a Canadian local is the main volunteer coordinator and teaches yoga at the center. Charlotta, one of the original founding elders plays an important role in mentoring and connecting with the volunteers as well as assisting with many projects. There are many local community members who work with the volunteers from time to time such as Johannes, Timberframeman, Chef and Yoga Teacher. Gustav, Outdoor adventurer and kinesiologist. Eva, elder and master gardener. Martin, Permaculture teacher and tree care professional and many more.
Volunteers are welcomed into the village, treated with kindness and respect and encouraged to listen to their needs. They are reminded to take time to rest and explore nature, connect with the community and enjoy their experience here.

The Center is absolutely amazing! I loved every second I spent there and cannot wait to come back. Everybody (other volunteers and people living there) is so frendly, kind and respectful🩷 I love the atmosphere. We felt really welcomed and accepted. It was just really fun and rewarding! Thank you Kelsey and others!❤️

This was my first volunteering experience, and I'm really happy I chose it! Even though I stayed for a short time, I got to enjoy so many wonderful activities: the spa, the lake, gardening, painting, and cooking. I had the chance to follow a completely different routine from city life, and it had a very positive impact on me. The people welcomed me with open arms, and I'm truly grateful for that (especially because I was a bit nervous, since it was my first trip alone). It was a beautiful experience for spending time with people, but also for escaping the chaos of the city and recharging.

One of the best experiences of my life! I spent two and a half months at the Center and truly felt at home. the Center really opened my heart. I connected with nature, met amazing people and learned so much about myself. I loved the dancing sessions, doing yoga, swimming in the lake, going on bike rides, taking part in the women's circle and so many other things. I enjoyed the variety of tasks, from reception and cleaning to gardening, helping in the kitchen and building a clay house. I felt very seen, and this community became like a family to me. I'll definitely come back! ❤️

I had a wonderful experience at the Center. I embraced the calm, slower pace of life there meeting amazing, warm people. The tasks each day were varied and fun, with lots of flexibility in managing your own time. I loved the beautiful surroundings, swimming in the lake and walking in the woods. I got to experience Stjärnsund's music festival which was fantastic. Kelsey and Johannes were supportive and attentive to the volunteers. Would highly recommend!!

The Center is such a fairy-like place! From the peaceful nature surrounding it, and on some days you can even sleep outside! (Just bring mosquito spray :) ); to the volunteers from all over the world, it becomes such a unique experience. The tasks are wonderfully diverse and flexible: cooking lunch in the outdoor kitchen and seeing it come to life as people start to arrive, or getting the chance to scream like a Viking while making clay for the first time! And the people there! Kelsey, Johannes, Eva, Marco, Charlotta are such wonderful people, they work so hard to make sure I had a great time!
