Not only do you get to live in the center of the Gaslamp Quarter which is the heart of the restaurant, shopping and nightlife district, but you get to stay in a cozy and historical location that celebrates the best of San Diego. Our volunteers get to help shape the vibe and atmosphere and learn what it's like to run a hostel . Please note, we have a 'canine ambassador' - an 11lb pup who loves people and giving kisses so if you miss your buddy, you can get some love here.
The hostel partners are long time friends and co-workers with over 20 years of hostel management experience working for independent hostel chains who've decided to strike out on their own. We like to laugh, be relaxed and make sure our guests have a great time and our team feel respected, appreciated and heard. We love new ideas and meeting people from around the world.

Join this hostel! Always a mix of international workers and guests, the building is beautiful, the energy is social, and the managers are respectful and very reasonable. I planned a 2 month stay but left after 1 month due to a foot injury. Maria offered accommodations but I knew I wouldn't heal soon enough. I wish I could have spent much more time with the other workers and consistent guests there that I loved and was upset to be leaving. I recommend Gaslamp Hostel to anyone who is social, enjoys a party, and works efficiently.

I came to Gaslamp totally randomly and only for a month and I walked out with a whole new family. It was very hard to leave and I wish I was still there.
Thank you Maria and Erin for being patient with us, John for the best cinnamon buns, and especially Jamie for being the best manager!
I would recommend this hostel to anyone, it is truly amazing!

I had an awesome experience at Gaslamp Hostel! I met so many people of different backgrounds and made some really amazing friends.
After staying for about three months in San Diego I feel so much more confidant and better equipped to take on new traveling experiences.
Volunteers who care about guests' experience will get the most satisfaction out of being part of the Gaslamp Team. There's always something to do in San Diego! Whether you like beaches, clubs, bookstores or museums, the city has a alot to offer for anyone's taste. Downtown is where all the best excitement is at!

The facilities at Gaslamp Hostel are incredible! The historic building is beautiful and very well maintained, incredibly clean, super equipped kitchen and comfortable beds. The management is always close to help and to deal with more specific matters. I had an amazing experience and made very dear friends.
