Gaslamp Hostel
Not only do you get to live in the center of the Gaslamp Quarter which is the heart of the restaurant, shopping and nightlife district, but you get to stay in a cozy and historical location that celebrates the best of San Diego. Our volunteers get to help shape the vibe and atmosphere and learn what it's like to run a hostel . Please note, we have a 'canine ambassador' - an 11lb pup who loves people and giving kisses so if you miss your buddy, you can get some love here.
The hostel partners are long time friends and co-workers with over 20 years of hostel management experience working for independent hostel chains who've decided to strike out on their own. We like to laugh, be relaxed and make sure our guests have a great time and our team feel respected, appreciated and heard. We love new ideas and meeting people from around the world.

O hostel é lindo e bem localizado, é perfeito para conhecer a cidade nas horas livres porque fica perto do transporte público da cidade. O trabalho de housekeeping não é dos mais leves e as 5 horas por dia podem ser de manhã ou de tarde (as vezes fica bem puxado, mas sempre é em dupla). Ainda sim, os outros staffs são pessoas incríveis e fiz amigos que vou levar para toda a vida. A gerência preza bastante pelo cumprimento das horas de trabalho e não tanto pelo intercâmbio cultural, mas são boas pessoas e procuram treinar e ajudar no que é necessário visando uma boa estadia para os hóspedes.

This was my first Worldpackers experience and it was so good! I met so many amazing people and made friends from around the world. The hours and tasks were exactly as described, the work was not too hard and were fun especially when you were on with other volunteers. Definitely recommend volunteering here!

Gaslamp Hostel was my first experience volunteering with worldpackers and I can truly say it was an enjoyable one. The volunteers welcomed me with open arms, which I appreciate greatly. They made my stay there one that I will never forget. Erika and Nathan were incredible managers who truly took the time to help us and interact with us.
I didn’t have as much interaction with the owners Erin and Maria but they’re an incredible team and are doing a great work at running the hostel. They are professional and reliable.

Gaslamp I love you! What a wonderful experience filled with incredible people. I met some lifelong friends here and I'm so happy I was given the opportunity to be apart of this community. Everyone was immediately very welcoming and Maria especially helped me figure out my car parking situation because that was a struggle. Thank you Maria for holding my hand through that lol. I'll be back to San Diego one day! Thank you Gaslamp Hostel and beautiful souls that work there. Much love <3

Life changing experience! Gaslamp Hostel is definitely a special place with incredible people. I felt at home right away and leaving was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. The atmosphere is amazing and all the staff members became my family away from home. I had the most fun days ever with the team and met a lot of amazing guests. The schedule of the week is very organized and the work is exactly as planned. The staff room is very comfortable and the bunk beds can be closed what allows you to have privacy. I had such a great time and I truly recommend this experience.
