Gaslamp Hostel
Not only do you get to live in the center of the Gaslamp Quarter which is the heart of the restaurant, shopping and nightlife district, but you get to stay in a cozy and historical location that celebrates the best of San Diego. Our volunteers get to help shape the vibe and atmosphere and learn what it's like to run a hostel . Please note, we have a 'canine ambassador' - an 11lb pup who loves people and giving kisses so if you miss your buddy, you can get some love here.
The hostel partners are long time friends and co-workers with over 20 years of hostel management experience working for independent hostel chains who've decided to strike out on their own. We like to laugh, be relaxed and make sure our guests have a great time and our team feel respected, appreciated and heard. We love new ideas and meeting people from around the world.

Definitely one of the best travelling and volunteering experiences I've had so far! I came here with no expectations and left with the best memories ever ♥ The location of the hostel is perfect if you like to party, as it is in the heart of downtown, the beaches are about an hour away by bus. If you want to improve your Spanish skills - this hostel is perfect for you! The work schedule is released weekly and you work 5-hour shifts 5 days a week. The workload varies from the shift and the day, so some days are more relaxed. You do housekeeping, cleaning the kitchen and toilets and/or reception.

I volunteered at Gaslamp Hostel for a month and a half, and it was amazing! The owners and manager are incredible, with excellent communication. I worked in housekeeping and reception, and I truly enjoyed being at reception. It was a rewarding experience that pushed me out of my comfort zone, helping me improve my English and allowing me to welcome guests. There are always interesting people to meet, and the breakfast provided is great, plus basic ingredients like spices and oil for cooking your own meals. It’s a wonderful place to share experiences with fellow travelers. Thanks Gaslamp Hostel
