Happy Tails Sanctuary
This sanctuary provides a safe home for around 50 dogs & 35 cats and is run by a Belgian woman named Francoise. She has lived on Koh Samui for many years, dedicating her life to helping animals in need and giving them a loving home. The sanctuary is in a jungle setting and has no direct neighbours; therefore, the dogs can be walked in packs without the worry of disturbing others. The whole sanctuary relies solely on kind donors and Workawayers like you.
The sanctuary needs people who are committed to the cause. Even in their free time. You should be here for the animals - not to nurture your ego, seek free accommodation or meet lots of people. You should be a team player that is easy-going, self-motivated, with common sense - time usually doesn't allow Francoise to give lots of feedback, as she's busy with the animals! If any of the above is not the case, Workawayers might be asked to leave.

The experience at the shelter was just magical. It was my first volunteering trip and I couldn't have found a more perfect place than this. The cats and dogs are lovely and you can feel how well they are taken care of by Françoise. If you want to have real impact and enjoy spending time with animals and in nature, I couldn't recommend this volunteering more. Its also a great opportunity to meet amazing people volunteering at the same time because you will be sharing a house with all the volunteers. I am already planning about when I'm gonna be back here :)

I had an incredible experience at the shelter. Françoise, the manager, is a wonderful person who is truly passionate and dedicated to helping animals. The volunteers do an amazing job every day, and you can really see how well the animals are cared for. I have very fond memories of my time there and would highly recommend this place to anyone who loves animal and wants to support a great cause. Thank you to Françoise and all the volunteers for their exceptional dedication ! ☺️

Our time at Happytails was truly unforgettable!It’s a place filled with so much love and history, run with heart and soul by Francoise and supported by a small family of dedicated volunteers.
You learn something new every day, experience all kinds of adventures, and get to feel the endless love of the dogs and cats.Living in the accommodation with your colleagues also helps you grow and improve your social skills.
Definitely highly recommended and we’re already looking forward to coming back.

I stayed with the shelter and Françoise for 6 weeks, working mostly with the 30+ cats are the shelter. It was evident from day one that Françoise's dedication is unparalleled, and she cares immensely about the well-being of her babies. The team was also very committed to providing the shelter the best service they could. I saw many volunteers going out of their way to cater to specific animal needs or deal with some situations. That was amazing! It was overall a really fun experience allowing for a lot of free time outside the 4-5 how of daily work. I'd come again.
