Hostel San Mercurio

Voulonteers will discover a truly bucolic and traditional environment, where they can experience a genuine connection with nature and traditions. Nestled in a serene landscape that seems untouched by time, this place offers a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Here, the rhythm of the natural world sets the pace, inviting the voulonteer to slow down and immerse themselves in the simplicity and beauty of our life.

The volunteer will be welcomed and treated as a member of our family, contributing a few hours each day to assist with the daily chores and activities that my grandmother oversees in managing the countryside estate. This unique opportunity allows for an immersive experience into our way of life, where traditional practices and the rhythm of nature dictate the flow of our days. Working alongside my grandmother, the volunteer will gain firsthand knowledge of the land, learn the value of sustainable living, and participate in the preservation of our family's heritage. It's not just about the work; it's about becoming part of a community that cherishes the bonds of family, respects the earth, and upholds the traditions that have been passed down through generations.

My experience was divided; the Encantados are excellent people, they always made me feel welcome and it was also very easy to be with them, in addition I was able to do my mural, which was something I wanted to do. The only bad thing is that a situation occurred in which I no longer felt safe involving a guest; I know that things can be out of control, but I ended my stay early because I felt unsafe at the place.

Thank you, Abril, for your kind words and the wonderful work you did during your stay! We are truly sorry for what happened and understand how you felt. It was an exceptional, unpredictable situation involving a paying guest going through personal difficulties, unlike anything we had experienced before. We regret that it affected your stay. If you ever wish to return, we would be delighted to welcome you with open arms and offer you the experience you deserve! 🙂

The hostel is a beautiful place filled with art and character. It's more of a boutique hotel than a hostel. The charming town of Toro is nestled in the mountains with picturesque views from the terrace. Antonio is an awesome host. He and his family are so welcoming. I felt at home during my stay and extended it to continue my amazing experience. Antonio showed me the local culture and hidden gems of the area. I highly recommend this incredible place for a memorable and enriching experience!

This was my first Worldpackers experience, and I truly enjoyed my stay. Although I didn't meet Antonio in person, he was easy to communicate with over text, and his sister Aurora was the best host. She was welcoming and took the volunteers to some events with her friends, which immersed me into the local culture. You decide your painting schedule, so I painted an average of 6 hours a day and took 2 days off during the 12 days that I stayed. Toro is a quiet town with peaceful nature surrounding it, and the locals were friendly. You can also take a day trip to Naples or the beach by bus.

I had an incredible amount of fun working at the hostel. Painting was super relaxing, as I really could put my own ideas into practice! I would definitely do the exchange in late summer and not in the cold seasons, since Toro is already a bit isolated and without other volunteers I probably would have felt a bit lonely. In September, however, the other volunteers and I had the best time, as Aurora (Antonio's sister) took us to events in the surrounding area. We fed ourselves and it felt like a small family.

This was a wonderful experience!
Communciation with the host Antonio was amazing, he was always super helpful, even before my stay even officially started, for example offering tipps and tricks about how to get to Toro the easiest way, even with him being in a different country at the time.
I especially appreciated Antonios sister who welcomed us volunteers eith open arms and fid her best to immerse us in the local community, taking us to local festivities or orgainzing meet ups eith her friends.
The work itself was also very nice, we were basically given complete creative freedom.
