Kep Gardens

You’ll be joining a grassroots project born from a genuine love for the Cambodian people and a desire to help rural youth build a brighter future. Founded in 2007, our organisation is a place where your time is a meaningful investment in a community that is incredibly friendly and determined. It’s a chance to move beyond the typical tourist path and contribute your skills to a long-term vision of education and empowerment.

We are Andrew and Janine, originally from Australia, with backgrounds in engineering, building, and education. Having taught in Papua New Guinea and worked in schools for many years, we value practical skills and a supportive environment. As a volunteer, you can expect to be treated as part of the family. We are a small, dedicated team that believes in mutual respect and the power of showing up for our students with heart and patience.

We had a great experience at the organization. Janine is a very welcoming host and you can see her passion and love for this project and the volunteers. The school is very well organised - there are teachers for every class, a lot of different materials that you can use and there is a lot of flexibility if you want to come up with new games or ideas. We had 1 to 1 sessions with the students to practice reading and conversation with them - they are very smart and they really want to improve their English. We had an amazing experience, if only we could have stayed longer. Thanks for everything!!

I would definitely recommend Irene and Tim to other Worldpacker communities. They were happy to take on any job that was asked of them. They took their jobs seriously, arriving on time and committing themselves to helping the students. It was important to them that they did activities that would really help the students, like reading and conversation. One thing I liked was that they were interested in learning about the Cambodian culture.

I had the opportunity to spend a week at the organization and it was truly an enriching experience. You get the chance to speak with Cambodian children to help them improve their English. All the kids and teachers are amazing. Janine, the owner, will do everything she can to make your life easier while staying in Kep. She organized a visit of the local town and a talk with a survivor of the Khmer Rouge, two experiences to understand more about the culture and the way of living of the country. I recommend this experience to anyone who wants to contribute to a beautiful project.
