La Iguana Perdida

La Iguana Perdida, nestled on the serene shores of Lake Atitlán in Santa Cruz, has been a beloved haven for travelers since 1995. We are a hostel, restaurant, and scuba school that fosters a warm, family-like atmosphere where volunteers are integral to daily life. Engaging with guests from around the world, you'll help create a welcoming environment that encourages cultural exchange and lasting friendships.

Volunteers are treated as part of the family from day one. You won’t be just helping out — you’ll be sharing meals, laughs, music nights, and lake adventures with both staff and guests.\nWe believe that happy volunteers create a happy hostel and we do everything we can to make sure your time here is not just productive, but also fun, meaningful, and memorable!

The hostel was one of the best volunteering experiences I've had. I would especially highlight the conditions offered to volunteers, particularly the food and the activities available. You are right on the shore of Lake Atitlán, surrounded by an incredible natural environment. The tasks are relatively simple and manageable, while still giving you the opportunity to interact with guests and meet people from all over the world. The location itself makes the experience even more special, with plenty of activities and beautiful places to explore during your free time.

The youth hostel is a rare gem! It's a small hotel located on Lake Atitlán in an incredible setting, a bit jungle-like.
You feel immediately good there and at home. The surroundings are magnificent and it is possible to visit all the small villages around the lake by boat.
I was immediately welcomed by a wonderful and warm team, who have become my friends. The managers are attentive and take care of all the problems encountered.
The work is not difficult to learn, done in a good atmosphere and leaves a lot of free time.
I recommend it 1000%

My time at the hostel was absolutely incredible. I felt so welcomed here and it truly feels like home now. Everyone I worked with and met were so friendly, welcoming, and fun. The managers are so kind and helpful, look out for you, and are there to help always. I had such a good group of volunteers who quickly became lifelong friends and truly couldn't have asked for a better experience. I wish I could have extended my stay <3 The work is also fun and although there is lots of information and moving pieces it is well explained and not difficult to learn. 10/10 would recommend

My time at the hostel was amazing! The work was fun and not difficult- managers and other volunteers were always there to help when you needed it. Staff and guests are very social, it's in an amazing location, and the benefits are great- all three meals, yoga classes, hikes, and discounts on so much more. I truly enjoyed every shift. I would recommend this experience to anyone!

I had a great time volunteering at the hostel! The work is easy and enjoyable, with plenty of free time to explore! Lake Atitlán is such a magical place even in the rainy season, and the hostel itself is beautiful. The room I stayed in was comfortable, we had 3 free and homemade meals a day and we also got lots of discounts on food, drinks, and activities. The other volunteers made the experience unforgettable, and the managers were always flexible and tried to accommodate everyone's schedules. I'd definitely recommend volunteering here :)
