La Tortuga Viva

La Tortuga Viva is a non-profit conservation organization dedicated to repopulating threatened sea turtle species nesting on Playa Icacos.
Since 2010, we have released over 500,000 baby sea turtles through the leadership and participation of the local community of Juluchuca, Guerrero. Our local volunteers help relocate vulnerable nests into our incubation area (turtle sanctuary) and, ultimately, release sea baby turtles into the ocean.

Our community conservation program includes environmental education, sustainable ecotourism and local and international volunteer options to support and complement our direct conservation work.

Resimar is a project that takes an exceptional holistic approach. During my time volunteering, I had continuous opportunities to interact and learn about turtles through night patrols and assisting with turtle liberation efforts, along with doing desk work. Additionally, I was able to discover other projects like the permaculture farm at Playa Viva, interacted with local children during game evenings, participated in trash cleaning initiatives, and experienced the incredible kindness of the locals.
