Lanton Hill Farm

There are many things you can take away from an experience with us. From working with a large enthusiastic group of people; to watching performances and training of stunts, horses and dogs. All of our trainers and performers love sharing their knowledge with people and answering any questions you may have about performance, animal care & running your own business.

Hi, we are a family based stunt team situated in the beautiful Scottish Borders. We set up our business in 2008 after 9 years living in France and doing our horse entertainment/circus/re-enactment shows. Jake & family moved back to the Scottish Borders to start Les Amis Stunt Team!

We only look for work exchangers between APRIL-SEPTEMBER.
There are 4 full time members in our team who live and work on our farm. We are a group of people motivated to work hard to create a successful business. Jake and (&me) his partner Sophie have two young children who also live on the farm. I am home educating the kids, following in their fathers footsteps of being home-ed. We are vegetarian and don't smoke, people are most welcome when they are similar to us. Anyone who comes to stay will find a friendly relaxed atmosphere.

We have horses, dogs, chickens and cats. Part of your job as a helper would be to help look after all our animals.

We do our horse shows all over the UK and Ireland mainly in the summer months, the shows include lots of different skills including jousting, combat, fire breathing, circus tricks, dressage, stunt riding, dog training, live music and much more! Our shows are set to music and include costumes and props made by us.
In staying with us you will work as a close nit team, ground crew in shows & learn lots of new and interesting ways of working with animals.

Jake and Sophie is a lovely couple who are very welcoming and kind, they are very clear on how to do the tasks you will be given. They have two lovely kids, Joubal and Lyra. And of course their dog Apollo ❤️ I had lots of fun on the farm, and hope I can comeback sometime to see a real jousting show! 😍

Definitely an amazing experience! A great chance too see parts of Scotland and really get involved in farm life and nature. 🌱 Sophie, Jake the family and team are very welcoming and kind. Everything felt very clear and structured, I was never confused about what was expected and agreed upon.😌 The jousting show was awesome and truly something to remember, would definitely recommend if you want a unique and fun experience combined with some hard work!😁❤️

My time at Les Amis was truly a unique and one of a kind experience! The horses are lovely and it was rewarding to contribute to all of the bits and pieces that go into equine theatre and stunt work! I'll miss everyone and especially picking wild raspberries with Lira 😭 daily tasks vary but Sophie and Jake are great at communicating what's needed to be done and are always wanting you to feel at home and included!

It's was overall not a horrible experience. Everyone was respectful and I got a small cabin to myself as accommodation. However I ended up working more hours than I agreed to and only got food 5/7 days a week despite what world packers says which was especially considering the closest town was a 50 minute walk away. I just wish I would've been informed of these things before I agreed to them. Also the work consists of purely farm work (no riding or other experiences even in off time).

Thanks for raising our attention to incorrect info, we have updated our profile. I am sorry to hear you thought you may be riding the horses, as our horses are specially trained stunt horses it would not be practical to allow volunteers to ride. They're not riding school trekking horses. I do feel its slightly disappointing that you did not think that getting to attend Linlithgow Spectacular Joust was a worthy experience. I hope for the rest of the summer you find experiences to suit your needs

I had a great time! Joining the medieval festivals as a squire was definitely the highlight of my stay :) The family and everyone around the farm are really sweet and have lots of interesting stories to tell! You can learn a lot from them :) I won't sugar coat it too much though, please be aware you can only shower once's a week (which turned out to be not as bad as I would expect), there won't be much (if any) riding and the working days are long. Though the work can be fulfilling especially if you can pet some of the sweet horses, dog, chickens or cats somewhere in between hihi :)
