Lazy Crab Hostel

Because at Lazy Crab you don't just come to sleep, you come to live Ometepe. We are a social hostel where it's very easy to meet travelers from around the world, participate in activities, enjoy good food, drinks and a relaxed atmosphere just 40 meters from the lake. We are creating a community where every guest feels welcome. If you're looking to make friends, share experiences and take away unforgettable memories, Lazy Crab is the ideal place.

I am a person passionate about hospitality, travel and about creating unforgettable experiences for those who visit Ometepe. At Lazy Crab we believe that a hostel is much more than a place to sleep: it is a community where travelers and volunteers can connect, learn and enjoy together.

Our team is close-knit, respectful and always willing to help. We treat volunteers as part of the family, valuing their ideas and their work. We want their experience to be a real exchange: while they support us with hostel tasks, they will also have time to explore the island, meet other cultures and make friendships with travelers from all over the world. We look for people with a good attitude, initiative and a desire to contribute to a positive and fun environment.

What an amazing experience! It was my first time volunteering, and thanks to the hostel team, I will always remember my time in Ometepe fondly. All of the staff are super nice and will always make sure you're OK. A special shoutout to Jafeth , you can always count on him. You can learn new things and put your knowledge into practice by contributing your own ideas and cooking skills to family dinners with all the hostel guests, or by taking part in other projects. The location is perfect you are close to lots of activities, beautiful beaches and viewpoints. Good Vibes only!

Jafeth was very responsible as a host, and although the volunteering was in another place, the experience at the hostel was precious. The owner Rider and the receptionist Aníbal welcomed me as part of the family. I am completely grateful for everything.

I enjoyed this experience but not everyone might. The setting is beautiful and pretty chill but it can feel a bit isolated if there's no other volunteers or guests. The work is physical but not hard.
The host, Jafeth, is kind, generous, understanding, patient, supportive, totally respected the conditions and was very flexible with these: the perfect host. However, the owner was also on-site and I found his mannerisms and behaviours challenging (but not threatening) at times. If Jafeth wasn't present I would not have stayed but for others it might be different.

Thank you for your honest feedback. Part of rebuilding this place means learning to work with the owner as he continues his recovery after a difficult time. We know this can be challenging and may not be for everyone, and we appreciate the empathy involved. I remain committed to this project until May and am truly grateful for all the kind and brave volunteers who have supported this journey.

I truly appreciate the opportunity to volunteer in the hostel, Jafeth was very kind and friendly throughout my stay. The atmosphere was sometimes a bit chaotic, and I didn't always feel fully comfortable in the accommodation provided. Despite this, the atmosphere was generally okay. I hope the hostel considers making some updates, because with a few improvements, it has the potential to offer a much better stay for future volunteers.

Jadeth is a very good person and very attentive. He was very considerate with our arrival and the benefits he promised us were fulfilled. We had to leave early and he even offered us discounts on tours after our departure. The place is undergoing renovation, so some areas had been unused for some time, with all that entails.
